NHS or Private NHS, i work in my dr surgery and a new dr started who is very up on her gynae knowledge, she is young too, so i find her more approchable, was diagnosed in 2004 but my old dr, that did that off blood tests alone so only now going under investagations to see how bad things are as i want to start a family
Action taken against PCOS losing weight, been on ww solidly for a year now, though admittedly i have not been good all the time cause it is so damm hard, but i have lost 2.5 stone and seen the return of my periods which have settled to a 3 week cycle ( but i aint complaining) more recently i have started exercising, which at the moment consists of walking to and from work, belly dancing which is great fun i really enjoy it plus girlys it really pulls ur tummies in wooo hooo and wii fit.
Worst thing about PCOS the possibility of not being able to have children
Best thing about PCOS being treated at last
Medication used 550 mg Glucophage 3x daily and Dianette
Action taken against weight loss by sticking to meds, walking and Gi diet along with healthy eating, but most importantly, not depriving myself!!! Have been doing this since Dec 08 and have lost 18lbs already. hope to lose another 14 lbs by August 08!!

Name Rachael Age 20 Family situation Single, no children. lived independently since i was 17. PCOS symptoms Difficulty conceiving, Hirsutism, and when i use hair removal cream or wax, even though it says on the tube that the hair wont grow back for up to three weeks, mine grows back within days. Irregular cycle - ranges anywhere from 9/10 months to 18 months, Overweight, acne, hair loss (my hair is kinda thinner than it used to be, and it falls out when i brush my hair and wash it etc), my voice is also a bit deeper and depression, although the depression can't just be tied to the PCOS in my case. i'm not sure about the size/amount of cysts on my ovaries as i don't get scanned until september. Worst thing about PCOS all of it Medication used Metformin 500mg twice a day, dianette. and co-codamol pain killers for my back even though they dont work so i dont take them lol NHS or Private NHS - iv been pushing for a dianosis since i was 14 and the dr insisted he was correct and that i was just fat (those were his words.) even though i had an eating disorder and was eating 500 calories or less a day and so i stopped attending and making appointments, then a few months ago my mum made me an appointment with her dr and persuaded me to go and he listened to me and got me the tests and diagnosed me. Action taken against PCOS taking metformin and dianette along with my current diet PM or Email? either :-) i have skype which is the same username as on here and anyone is welcome to add me, as long as you say your from here with your friend add :-)
Any other information ummm...nope :-) sorry it was long lol
welcome to sc, rachel. glad you got a good dr in the end. i had to change dr, too to get some help. there is a link to the newbie roadmap in my siggie for you

Name Emma Age 35 Family situation Single, no children. PCOS symptoms Facial hair, hairy back, irregular cycle, anywhere from 5-9 weeks, spots Worst thing about PCOS knowing I had it but waiting for the GP to confirm it as I was going through a stressy time looking for and changing jobs and the GP initially thought that was affecting my cycle Medication used Dianette until today, GP has referred be to the hospital NHS or Private NHS - had long wait for an ultrasound - had to be referred a second time as over a 6 month wait following an intial blood test Action taken against PCOS trying to loose weight now, although it has felt like a loosing battle on dianette. Maybe my little wii fit mii will get slimmer as I do! PM or Email? I don't mind Any other information nope, just pm/email if you want to know more

Medication used doctor wont give me clomid till tests are in, refused to give me metformin

Hi I'm Sue from London, new to the forum. Got diagnosed about 7 years ago just after I got married. Never missed period until after I got married and then wanted to have children straight away but got told I had PCOS after alot of investigation. Feeling at a dead end right now, been taking Metformin on and off for a few years but wieght not shifting. Is there hope for me, could do with some support my cysters as feeling low. Everyone I know has got babies or about to have them so hard right now
BIG HUG!!! Hi ya sue!! What else have the doctors done for you?? Have they adjusted your met ?? I know it can get on top of ya as it doesn't seem fair but we will all get there one way or another.
welcome to sc glad you found us!! pcos books can be really helpful. which one are you reading right now??
I'm reading the pcos diet book by collette harris.
I've had it for about a year but only got round to begin to read it a few weeks ago. I've only just read a about 100 odd pages (life and it's time restrictions!) and started to follow some of it and I felt some improvements.
The book is very refreshing and it's so comforting to read a book that is British and written by other women who have pcos rather some american male doctors who have treated women with the condition.
