Name Angela Age 30 (just!) Family situation Great boyfriend of 13 years Where am I? Belfast, Northern Ireland PCOS symptoms weight gain, hairy, cramps (without the period), depression, unable to conceive Worst thing about PCOS Problems conceiving, depression (although some of that's due to other problems), excess hair (while the hair on my head falls out all the time!) Medication used only the pill - progesterone only cos i get really bad migraines NHS or Private NHS. Action taken against PCOS Trying to lose weight, constantly waxing my body hair (although that never semms to last). I've been diagnosed for a couple of years now, and things aren't too bad at the minute. Although every time I say that, it flares back up again... PM or Email? Either.
Family situation Living with my lovely boyfriend John who I have been with for 3 years
Where am I Luton, Bedfordshire
PCOS symptoms
To begin with was really bad acne but that is ok now and weight gain. My period have only recently become very light but they are regular at the moment - I do get bad stomach cramps though. I get rather depressed - might be due to not being able to lose weight and having a stressful lifestyle.
Worst thing about PCOS
To be honest although I am not ready to have children right at this moment, I am very worried that I will not be able to have them as I do definately want them in the future. Thought about not being a mum is horrifying for me and I do not know if I could go through adopting a child but that is a long way off. I feel that PCOS controls my life in a sense that if I was told I would have more chance of concieving now rather than in five to ten years time then have would have children now and then I wouldn't be able to persue my career. The other thing is the weight gain and not being able to lose the weight that I have gained even though I exercise and eat all of the right things!!!
Medication used
I am taking Diannette and was taking an antibiotic for the spots because they were everywhere but can't remember the name.
NHS or Private
NHS but I wish my doctor knew more about PCOS or would send me to a specialist.
Action taken against PCOS
I have tried to lose weight with Weight Watchers and Slimming World but no joy! They do work though as I lost weight with both of them before I was diagnosed with PCOS. Going back to the doctor next Friday to see if he will prescribe me Metformin and send me to a specialist.
Anything else?
I just would really like to talk to people who are going through the same as me - hence joining this forum.
Hi I'm Alice. Looking for some success stories here! I'm 30, diagnosed with PCOS. Haven't had a natural period for a year now. Going bak to see the consultant in 2 weeks and hoping to get some clomid but unsure as I'm overweight.
Hi I'm Carrie. I'm a 29 year old American living in Dublin for 3 years now and I was diagnosed about 2 months ago but I'm not looking to conceive for quite some time. I am quite over-weight which is very depressing since I don't eat crap but still get looks from the general public as if I live at the take-away.
My Dr put me on and then took me off Met because she says she gets no results from it so its old fashioned butt-kicking exercise in the gym!
hello to all the new ladies - welcome to sc :flowers sorry ive not been around before to welcome you, ive been in hospital twice within the last few weeks. (breast cancer ops), will try and be here more

Hi ladies
I have a story of hope!! For the lass that lives in luton, you are very close to me and I suggest you see a doctor called Ms Akbar at the luton and dunstable hospital!!
My story is one the same as you have all experience, lose weight, no treatment til you do, poor information on pcos. Then I changed consultants and everything changed!! I got proper management of my pcos, got met, clomid, fsh injections and ovulation scanning. She gave me dietary support and the weight dropped off!! However the periods did not get any better in fact I have in the past gone years without a period!! The max was three and a half!!!!!!!!!!
But she never gave up and was always there, and now I am nearly 8 weeks with my first child!! yet still she has been a star arranging scans and continuing my met!!
So for those of you that have irregular cycles do not give up you will get there!!
Thank you very much to the lady who has suggest a consultant to me. I am seeing the doctor tomorrow as it happens (the has been so suggestion from him about seeing a consultant!). I am going to give him the name of the consultant you have said and get him to refer me as all this is really getting me down.
I hope all of you other ladies get the help that you need.
Also this maybe a silly question but what is 'TTC'?.
iv just found this site and am so relieved as im very confused about so much, i was diagnosed about 4 months ago with pcos, my doctor simply put me on the pill and that was it, but this made me so moody and depressed that i stopped taking it, when i went back to ask if there was anythinge else i could try he said no, he also said that there wasnt anyone to refer me to as i wasnt trying to conceive and that until i was there was nothing they could do. is this true? would appreciate any advice you can give! im training to be a midwife so feel as if i should know a bit more about this but we arent taught anything!

Hi Rachel
I got told this too however it seems to be depending on where you are living and how knowledgeable your dr is you get told different things. I live in Dorset and have a friend who lives in Reading and she's been treated so differently to me, it's so frustrating. I am now pushing my GP to refer me to a different gynaecologist and endocrinologist since my last one basically said there was nothing she can do until I want to try to conceive
Hi im emma, 22 from dorset, im married to an army musican. We have been TTC for 3 years now x
I am currently on my first cycle of clomid ( started tabs on 4th Nov on CD 2-6 )
Was due on today so did an HPT which was BFN but AF has still not arrived.
Hi Emma, i'm Victoria, 24 living in Bristol. I had 3 rounds of clomid, and ovulated on each, took it cd's 2-6 like yourself and could feel which side was doing its deed, the right side being very painful, however no pregnancy. I'm now not taking clomid but am taking metformin (which i've been taking for nearly a year now) 1000mg a day and am having a blood test to see if I can ovulate on my own this month, which i'm thinking is happening due to terrible pains on my right hand side (the side which should be working this month). If I do then I need to have bloods every month for about 6 months to see what's happening etc, however, if no ovulation i'm being referred to the fertility clinic in hospital. Please keep posting on your progress, it would be lovely to keep in touch and I wish you both all the very best x x x
