Hi,
those of us ample ladies, where do you get your clothes from? I am really aware that I look really scruffy as I am too disheartened to go shopping as I don't think I will fit into anything, and I don't usually see much I like in Evans. Anyone any suggestions? And can you let me know if the sizing is generous?
Ali (size 20 and Next never seem to have my size in stock)

You can get some really great things i9n peacocks of all places - also Debenhams does some great bits and pieces - summer stuff that won't last a lifetime from MKOne and Matalan - suits etc and jeans i find are best from catalogues - Simply be or Maria Donate
Well I am bigger at a size 30 and I use to love Evans but I think they have gone way off the mark in there designs for people my size... great for people in sizes from the 20's but clingy tops are not my style.
I have been a real casual kind of girl for years, and I love nothing more than to veg in comfy pants, and t-shirts. I buy most of my stuff online from JDWilliams but use Evans for trousers and some other stuff.
I've also discovered recently importing things from the states, brand name t-shirts in a bigger size quite cheap and wash well, I now own my NY Yankees T-shirt from this week, something I've wanted for ages!
Also like to use Evans for t-shirts and stuff, tend to always buy new from the USA, but there is also a good UK seller that has some wicked t-shirts on there with some funky logos!
I have big feet too....now there's another problem!!!!
Paddy
Paddy you might want to have a look at http://www.magnusshoes.com/, I have big feet also and I have just discovered this place. I think I will order some shoes very soon.
I have found Evans is sometimes ok but only if you go to the bigger stores, our local one is just terrible!
I don't mind M &S but the styles are a bit dated at times
New Look is trendy and good sizes if you can drop on something, other times it is full of rubbish
Most of my clothes are from NEXT, ordered form the directory, you can order online too. They go up to a 22 in some things and if you are a 20 you may need the 22 regularly as they are not always generous especially in tops that are tailored the casual stuff is more generous
Also Simply Be can be ok, again some stuff is great, other stuff cheap and nasty just depends on what you buy, but they have a good range from trendy to smart the only thing is it can take a while for the stuff to come, I am so impatient i just want it that day!!
And like someone else said i think Peacocks do a range, I haven't bought anything from there but i do get some bits from Tesco at times, its ok but the clothes don't seem last or wash well, nither does Asdas but they r ok to get you by
Hope you find some nice things to wear..

I have gotten a few nice things from Peacocks- though I find they run a bit small. One or two things from M&S.
I have purchased a few things at Evans, but I don't care for them much. They are expensive and IMHO they have a lot of "old lady" stuff.
Tesco and Sainsbury you say? None around me are big enough to hve clothes.

On a slightly different note, I noticed Dorothy Perkins flagship store in London now have a 'Plus Size' window display with plus sized maniquins (even if it was on the side street, I was still pleased to see it!)

i like dp's because they do short trousers in a size 16, but i also like evens.
Asda have some nice clothes but there all to long for me as i am only 5ft on a good day.
i used to really like freemans nealy all there clothes went up to a size 18, but now they stop at 14's most of them (except some clothes right at the back, which are ok, but not pretty).
my worse thing is getting dresses because my waist is two sizes smaller then my top half being 42DD.
how do you girls manage with dresses???????

Reading some of your posts made me sad. Like many Aussies I did the (almost) obligatory 2-odd years overseas and spent most of it in the UK. I had a ball! But back to the question...
The only store I haven't seen mentioned is H&M. They also used to sell plus size clothes, but perhaps that has changed - I was in London last year, and the store at Oxford Circus no longer held plus sizes.
..And for the person looking for large shoes (another problem for me as well), in Chiltern St, London (near Baker St station) there are 3 stores that sell large shoes - Crispins, Magnus and Elephant Feet (unfortunate name). They all have websites, but I can't recall any of them - I suppose they;d either end in .com or .co.uk
Hi girls
On the subject of plus sized clothes my sister informs me that h&m do a plus sized range called big is beautiful, also etams used to do a plus range but i think alot of the etams shops have shut down. wallis clothes go up to a size 22 and apparently the clothes are improved alot through the years i bought a lovely skirt from there a few weeks back very pretty!. monsoon also go up to a size 22 very pricy but there clothes are an investment. the fashion market is really ploughing for plus size ranges now so who knows what is up and coming!
