Thats the problems these days if you look at the labels on anything it is laden with so much salt, sugar, E numbers (also noticed that manufactures are stopping using the E numbers on their labels and instead are calling them by their latin names to confuse us ?). You have to be extra diligent that you know what are you are consuming, which is easier said than done though !!

I try to make most things from scratch so i can keep an eye on what I'm eating although I'm probably guilty of adding more salt than food manufacturers.
It's the thing i find hardest to cut down on.

hi
sarah louise - i know what you mean - food labels can be confusing.
briggy - have you tried low salt?? That might be better? I personally dont like salt much, but i use lots of herbs instead.

We get ours from the bakers, can't beat it but I've no idea if they add salt. I will ask next week.

Salt has to be added to bread. I spent several months at my previous job looking at ways to reducing salt content in bread but although it can be reduced slightly it cannot be left out. It has several functions in the process of making bread, dough without salt cannot be moulded or processed as it it too gloopy. Salt also controls how much the dough rises and if there is no salt in the bread the dough rises too high. Bread without salt also tastes pretty bad!

i as thinking......... even in home made bread (Ive got a bread making machine), you still have to put 1 1/2 t spoons of salt in.
