Default UK/US clothing size conversion

Does anyone know of any online conversion charts?

Its more out of curiosity than any urgent need. It would help me understand some of the US posts a little better though!

*grin*

Mostly, US clothing is 1 size smaller than ours. So if you wear size 16 over here you will weat size 14 in the US. Hope that helps

hi

I thought the sizes were;

2= our size 6, 4= 8, 6= 10, 8=12 and so on.....but that was just what I took from other posts - as usual I could have got it wrong!

If I have any conversion problems .. or anything at all I ask Jeeves He's a clever little so and so! (www.ask.com)

I have had to shop 'American' for so long, I'm forgetting English! Although I must say that I've never found any American clothes that I want to buy (no offence intended to anyone).

Thanks, I found some in the end.

The reason I was curious was that I thought sizes were one step down from ours but some of the posts I've read seem to suggest a larger step.

I found a good site called onlineconversioncom

Default erm...confused

what about US dress sizes 0, 2 and 4? now I am confused cos I know they exist - what are they in English? and how comes, I wear a 16 top and 22 bottom in UK sizes and a 10 top and 16 bottom in US sizes? (I've had stuff sent me from the US).
argle, too much for my poor brain.

From personal experience I had to buy sizes 16 when I was living there and in the uk I was a size 20. so maybe it's two sizes down??

I think that sizes 0, 2 and 4 are just there to make us mere mortals feel very sad! But I think they are for uber skinny people, with 26 inch waists

Default rah..uberskinny

well I used to have a 28-inch waist before all this PCOS crap caught up with me, so does that make me a former-nearly-uber-skinny person? I was 42-28-42....then I went up to 49-40-52 with my thighs coming out to 55 - now I'm 43-33-44 and my thighs come out to 47, I believe - which is not bad but still annoying, because being 3 sizes bigger on the bottom mean I can't wear dresses. I used to think UK size 4 was fictional until I met someone who was....and now that's what they make catwalk samples in - UK sizes 4 and 6. Then again, UK size 12 was classified as outsize a couple of years back. Oh I would looooove to be that "outsize." I'm going to stop rambling. My bloke thinks anyone smaller than a 16 is too thin for his liking, so I'm all right.
