Default ulcer anyone?

Hi...
I have GERD and take Nexium for it. Recently I have been feeling absolutely awful. I have a constant burning in my chest area and I am very naseous. I have been burping up some stomach acid too (sorry) I'm afraid I might have an ulcer.
Does anyone have any experience with ulcers and what were your symptoms. I've been drinking lots of water b/c I feel better afterwards, I feel the worst about 10 mins. after eating. I'm at college, far from home, so all I have to go to is the medical center.
Help!
Tori

Tori,

I just wanted to let you know I can sympathize with you. I made a couple trips to the Er thinking I was having a heart attack and was finally admitted to the cardiac floor. It turned out I had an huge ulcer and an eroded esophagus that was having spasms. Right now I am on Nexium twice a day, Reglan 4 times a day, Zantac and phenegran both as needed. I go back to the gastro Monday and hopefully he'll be able to give me some more help. I have all the symptoms you have describe, and for some reason iced tea helps soothe me. I know you aren't supposed to drink caffiene but whatever works. =) You are in my prayers, and if you need to talk just email or PM me.

Bethany

PS-I was in college last spring when all mine started so I know how it feels to be away from home!!!

it sounds like you need to contact your doctor about this condition... it seems like its getting worse. I also have gerd and i've mainly controled mine by changing my diet and also a few techniques such as inclining the head of my bed slightly by placing a 2 by 4 between the mattress and boxsprings... it works great and the incline is enough to keep the stomach acid where it should be.

I've also had ulcers in the past brought on by extreme stress. (they are all gone now YAY!) and remember they are serious.... definately something you should see your doc about....

Thankyou so much for your replies! I am also on Nexium, once in the morning and I also have a small amount of Barret's esophagus (erosions in your esophagus) I had an endoscopy last year. I think that I'm going to hopefully go back to my gastro when I'm home in a month. Home is Boston and I'm in PA, so if it's really bad, it's not too far.
Sarah - what meds did you take to get rid of your ulcer? I ran out of nexium for a few days and that is when the pain was really bad. I don't want to be really dependent on the meds. I know it sounds awful, but it's been helping me stick to my diet b/c I'm too naseous to eat anything crappy.
Bethany - I hope that you feel better!

well vicki,

my ulcer was from an infection that was brought on by my stress (my father had died, my best friend a month later and my boyfriend a month after that) so I was on a combination of antibiotics as well as prilosec for the stomach acid. I pretty much lived on carnation breakfast mix for my meals..... until I healed. Now when my gerd bothers me, i take rx zantac, or axid. but usually its not that bad....
