Ok, I have my ultrasound appt. on wed. and a couple hours later I have my appt. with my family doctor. I had my blood tests done a long time ago so they should be ready. Will the ultrasound tech know right away if there are problems and or the information my doctor needs to know? I really want to start taking the meds because I feel completely out of control. I hope someone can answer this for me. Also, do you have to take the pill/metformin at a certain time or can u start right after you fill the prescription?
THANKS!

Assuming you have classic "string of pearl" ovaries, your u/s tech or doctor should be able to diagnose it right away. I agree with Tink, my u/s tech has always told me what she sees as she goes along. Be aware though, not all women with PCOS have cystic ovaries.
It's funny because even though I've been diagnosed since '03, I had never had an u/s. I believed in my head I must have atypical pcos without cystic ovaries. I had no evidence to suggest this was the case but I just believed it. When I had an u/s this spring, I was surprised to find I did have classic pcos ovaries. How silly is that! Just be aware that it can go either way.

EVERY cyst! Goodness! I could see the screen too but they found some endometriomas too and that was what they were pointing out to me. She did say though, pointing to my right ovary, "And here's your classic PCOS ovary. Lots of cysts."

I agree that you should be able to get u/s results immediately.
Especially since your appt. with your Family Doctor is right after your u/s.
As for Metformin....you can take it as soon as it is prescribed.

When I was scheduled for my ultrasound the receptionist made the follow-up appointment for the week after my u/s. Well I am a BIG worrier, and so my dear doc (who knows me well!) called me the day after my u/s when he got the results, so I wouldn't have to wait (and worry) until my appointment!
I was already on met before I had the ultrasound. You can start the met right away. What helped me with the side effects was to take the met in the middle of the meal (not just "with food" but right in the middle!) and eating lower carb foods. Also I started out at a lower dose (500 mg) and worked up gradually (to 1000 mg, then to 1500 mg). I still had some side effects, but they decreased A LOT when I did those things. Hope this helps cyster. The met for me was a godsend. It helped regulate my cycle, helped me lose weight, and helped me get pregnant.
Best of luck with the ultrasound, please let us know how it goes for you!
Hugs cyster
Jenny
