Question Ultrasound and period?

Hello. This may be a totally silly question, but can a pelvic ultrasound be given during menstruation/gyno exam? I have these two very important appointments coming up soon and I've been waiting over three months to see a specialist. My period, of course, is overdue and I'm not pregnant. Murphy's Law says I'll start bleeding when I've got to see the doctors.

Thanks!

It is ok if AF comes when you are having a pelvic/ vaginal ultrasound. If you get a vaginal u/s it might become a little messy but they will still do the u/s. I never have AF but of course when I went to the doctor AF was there and they still did the u/s. Thank goodness because I want to know what is going wrong with me. You are not suppose to be on your cycle for a paps smear. I hope this helps! You can pm me if need be.

You sure can. It is messy though. I had to have one a few months ago b/c of unexplained bleeding. It was kind of gross, but the scan was just fine.

Yes you can. When I was going through a study for infertility I had to have them every day throughout my period. It can be alittle messy but it can be done.

And also remember that they see that sort of thing every day, I was scared when it happened to me, but they are fine with it!

Yup, just let them know before you go and they will be fine with it. When you are TTC and doing different fertility treatments and proceedures you often have to have ultrasounds around CD3 and during AF, so they are definatly used to it. Also they give ultrasounds, often vagainally, to pregnant women when they experiance bleeds too.

I had a 6 month long cycle last year and I got AF during my scan. I had no idea that it had arrived until a little while afterwards, but the Dr doing the scan didn't even bat an eyelid or mention it.

I wouldn't think so but who knows. After I finished the study I was in my periods came back regular every month and I am not taking any meds at all. Strange.

Smile Thank you

Thank you so much for your help here. I was really worried that I'd have to wait another three months! Really, you've all made my day.
