I need some help... About 2 years ago (jan 04) I stopped having my period. I had just gotten married, thought maybe it was time to start thinking about having a baby and I got off the pill and wanted to cleanse my system. I was suprised that I didn't have any cycle and went to the doctor. She said that I probably had PCOS and that I would never have a child (just like that - don't get me started...). So I took the prescribed metformin (severe diarrhea), took the prescribed provera (made me insane) and I had an ultrasound in nov 04 that showed cysts on my ovaries. [That's the short version] So my problem is this... last Friday I had an ultrasound that showed no cysts on my ovaries. I wonder if it's possible to 'heal' from this, because no doctor has told me that this was even a possibility. I have had acupuncture, massage, taken herbs, lost weight, exercised regularly, sought therapy regarding trauma... I'm not sure where to go from here. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, if not just support. Thank you! Blessed be ~ nicki
That is very odd....did you have the same kind of ultrasound done each time? I think that cysts generally show up better on a vaginal ultrasound than an abdominal one, but I am not sure about that. I have never heard of anyone's cysts going away like that, but I guess anything is possible. You can definitely have PCOS without having cysts, but that is the first time I have heard of someone having cysts and then not having them.
I appreciate the responses... Both ultrasounds were vaginal - same room, same machine, different tech. All of my tests came back 'normal' through this whole two year period, the main problems that I was having were no periods (for 2 years) and the ultrasound that showed cysts. Now my ultrasound shows no cysts. I had gone in (last week) because my breasts were heavy and tender, I was having abnormal lower back pain - I felt like I was about to start, then we did the ultrasound to make sure I didn't have a huge something in my uterus, and I took a pregnancy test (neg - otherwise I'd be shouting from the hills...).... it's all very confusing....
I wanted to let you know that the same thing happened to me...& having cysts has absolutely nothing to do with PCOS...PCOS is an endocrine Disorder (Hormone Imbalance)...& the reason we gets cysts is because our bodies try to funtion normal...meaning that - our bodies try to ovulate, & because of the hormone imblance, the follies stop growing, & they turn to cysts...which are better known as Polycystic ovaries. Little tiny follicles...The only way to get rid of, or try to lessen them is by getting AF every month...Af helps wash them away....
You will more then likely get them when you haven't seen af for a while....
Mine come & go, depending on how long I go without AF...
G/L!
