I just had an emergency ultrasound on Saturday and there was "excessive free fluid" in my abdominal cavity and around my kidneys. The ER doctor was getting me ready for surgery when the head of the OBGYN department came down to evaluate me and stated that due to the size of my ovaries, it appeared that cysts had ruptured and that was what the fluid was from. I didn't end up having surgery as the OB wanted to monitor me before doing surgery since I am newly pregnant. Between then and now I have been peeing ALOT. I had a follow up ultrasound today and while there was still some fluid, it was greatly reduced.
I don't know if that is of any help, but the OB said that it is not that uncommon and will usually resolve itself on its own. I was told however, that if I had difficulty peeing, shortness of breath, or a rapid heart rate, I should come back to the ER immediately.
