Default Ummm...should I have had D&Cs?

I have had 2 known miscarriages back in 1997, and 2 "suspected" (by me) ones since then.

I have never had a D&C. Should I have?

One died at 6 weeks and was a multiple pregnancy, and the other one died at 10 weeks.

I've just seen that this was pretty much standard procedure for many women, and it wasn't even discussed with mine.

Just curious.

Thanks,

I never had a D&C either. My doctor told me on my on confirmed mc (I had one suspected earlier) that I could have a DC or let it happen "naturally." Looking back, that doctor was a quack. I think natural child-birth can be life-affirming and positive, but not a 12 week miscarriage. By the end of it I hoped I would die.
Anyway, I'm veering off into TMI. But, yeah, I don't know if I should have had one or not.
Anybody else know?

I've had four m/c's, lost five babies and I've never had a d&c. I've actually fought not to have one done when I lost my twins six weeks apart. My dr at the time (whom is no longer my dr and never will be again) tried to force me to have the d&c when the second twin wouldn't come out. It's a long story but basically I wasn't going to be forced into something I wasn't comfortable with and that I really didn't need just because some jacka$$ dr wanted $$ for a procedure that wasn't necessary.

Having a d&c or not is a very personal thing. With a d&c there is a small risk of scarring in the uterus and a risk I did not want to take. I also treasure the moments I've spent with my children. Even though they were small and didn't even look like babies, I knew they were my children and I've held every one of them. Some women feel differently than I do and a d&c is the way they need to go and there's nothing wrong with that.

As far as our bodies are concerned, about 80% of the time our bodies will m/c naturally and does not need the help of a d&c. To answer your question, No, you did not need a d&c if your body was able to m/c naturally and your beta went back to zero.

HTH .
