Question Underarm Boils & Deoderant

Hello Cysters! I was hoping to get some feedback about boils, which I'm sure a lot of you are farmiliar with and suffer from! Particularly underarm boils, which I swear are my curse!

Do any of you who have boils under your arms do anything different with your deoderant while you have a boil or because you have frequent boils? I wonder if my deoderant is making my boils worse, maybe causing a lot of them. Any thoughts?

I obviously don't want to go WITHOUT deoderant (yikes!) but I also don't want these boils either, as you all know are just aweful! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Cysters!

just curious what kind of deodorant do you use - I use to use the solid kind and I had to switch to the clear gel - havent had a problem with them since

That used to happen to me too very painful...I used to use a clear gel that not only gave me those boils but ruined alot of my shirts. I have switched to Secret Platnum Invisible solid - No more boils and not so much ruining of my shirts

I have them and I cant seem to get them to go away no matter what type of Deorant I use. I have tried almost every kind and type know to man. I wish I could find one that was antibacterial I'm sure that would solve some of our issues with boils. Good Luck

Cysters,
I just use a regular ol' solid like Secret....it looks like from the posts some get boils w/ solids, gels, any kind of deoderant!

Jess4Houston, I never thought of an anti-bacterial deoderant....shouldn't "they" have made something like that??? Well, if they haven't, they need to! Maybe we need to tell the right people that there is definately a market out there for that!

Anyone know if there is an anti-bacterial deoderant???

Thanks for the feedback!

I've had one or two before and I believe mine was caused by an ingrown hair which may have came from shaving. I just bought a real good razor and watched how I shaved. Use only Dove or Degree. Sometimes Secret.

Bethers,
Thank you for that info! I have heard in the past that aluminum can accumulate in the brain (aluminum in deoderant) and that always scared me! I think I'm going to give natural deoderant a try and see how it works for me. Great tip!

Redbook for June had a chart in it with some more natural deodorant's. I can't post it here since I read it at the gym, but it might be worth a look.

My boil/cyst was an infected sweat gland. My doctor had me use a clear deodorant (just deodorant...no anti-perspirant 'cause that only makes it take longer to heal). The deodorant only stops you from being stinky, not from sweating. The boil/cyst cleared up in a few days, and I could go back to my regular deodorant (which is also an anti-perspirant).

ok I have had one or two before and my doctor and mom told me boils are staff infections. I don't know if that is just old news but, it wasn't to me. So I started looking at it as a infection and not like breaking out. I use "purpose" which is not a soap but, it cleans and disinfects. It's made by Johnson and Johnson. I also switch deorderants every month or when I buy new stuff, it is always different. I found doing that and shaving every other day, and after taking a shower but, before putting on deodorant, I put lotion on and everynight wether I shower or not, I wash my underarms with antibact. soap. just somethings that I do that seem to help.

I have only gotten armpit boils twice and both times it was when I switched to Gillete Soft & Dri Power Stripe deodorant. It was on sale and I loved the smell but It was AWFUL! But once I stopped using that I never got one again.

I think I kept using the deodorant through the first set but then I stopped for the second set. It was late fall so I wasn't getting to hot and smelly... I would suggest going without deodorant until they clear up or possibly using or switching to a deodorant that is JUST a deodorant, not an anti-persperant as well. I think the anti-persperant park can lead to clogs and some cause worse clogs than others (ie power stripe...)
