So a couple months ago I posted about having LHR on my arms. I was concerned that my skin didn't show much reaction to the laser and that the treatment was a waste. A couple of the ladies on here suggested I give it time and see what happens. Well thankfully all the hair shed and it seemed like there was some reduction. Well, a couple weeks before my next appointment the LHR office called and informed me that they were closing down and refered me to another center called Avanti.
I had my first treament there and they used the YAG laser. They were very conservative with the setting since I am olive skinned. The treatment was very comfortable..no burning or swelling. However after 10 days not a single hair has shed. The hair has a grown normally and resists even if I try to pull it out and they keep growning. Its frustrating because if the laser had no effect its like money down the drain.
Should I call them and see if I can have my arms redone? My next appointment isn't for 10 weeks.
I get yag and it takes almost a full 2 weeks before the shedding starts. My skin is darker than yours, and they space my appointments out every 6 weeks.

I got the Gentle Yag treatments for about a year, some areas it never helped at all, others it did while I was going for treatments, but once I stopped going most of it came back - very disappointing, especially considering the money I spent! I don't know what the problem was, I have light skin and very dark hairs, but for whatever reason it didn't really take.

I just got lasered 2 weeks ago and I have the same issue. This time I didnt notice a substanstial amount of hair reduction. The first session was great and I am looking forward to another in two weeks.
I think that it may have something to do in with the hair growth stage. This may be the culprit that causes a lack of results at times.
Also, I think that 10 weeks is a long wait, I would call them to see if I would be able to come in sooner or I would do research and switch to another laser center.
I have really been through laser hell, I've been severly burned, wasted lots money and have gone to several centers before I found one that has good prices and understands what my skin needs are!
My twin just had her second treatment with a CoolGlide Xeo. She was able to go 9 weeks between treatments before any regrowth. The second treatment she didn't have as much growth as the first time. She started shedding within two days. They said they had it up pretty high. I guess it's different for everyone. We have dark hair and a medium to light complexion.

I had CoolGlide years ago, and my shedding started much sooner with that type of laser. But my sessions were still 6 weeks apart.
Regrowth is an individual thing...androgen levels/sensitivity and anagen growth cycles.

Yeah, we both have to shave every day. So this was a big deal with it going that long After that I am ready to start mine.
Is there any specific reason you don't use the CoolGlide anymore?

The fact that you're twins make it much more likely that you'll respond in a similar way to your sister. After all, it was probably because of your similar genetic background and development that you both had to shave every day. Let's not forget that though it's common enough among cysters to shave every day, and it's not rare among women in general, it's nonetheless a relatively small percentage of women who have to shave so frequently.
I had about ten treatments spaced out properly. For three months, I have stopped treatments, and slowly the hairs have come back, and though they are not as thick, the difference is negligible considering they are too much to let grow anyway. I'm not sure it was worth my money.

If you haven't got your hormones into the normal female range and then kept there continuously, there's little point in using laser or electrolysis. One will always have the tendency towards male-pattern hair growth and getting the hormone balance into normal levels for females is absolutely essential to have any hair removal program produce lasting results.
I have had 6 treatments and at first the results were great and noticable but now the hair is starting to grow back just the same. I have 2 more sessions but I am not sure that I will get the result that I need in the 2 treatments that are left. I feel like it was a waste of $1500. the place where I go, they are great and very careful! but I still have alot of hair growth on my face

Dx.: March 2008
TTC (seriously) since 2009
Meds:
Metformin 500mg
PCOS Symptoms:
No Cycles( unless forced by BCP)
Facial hair( well the hair is pretty much everywhere)
It's 12 days after my first laser sesion and I've shed most of my hair and my reaction has cleared up. This feels great! Even if I have to do this for the rest of my life it's worth it to me ($175 a treatment). I have had a bad reaction to it as well (ingrown hairs that caused ant like bumps that itch and hurt all over my chin and a histamine? reaction) and still feel like it's worth it. I have lots of growth though and at this point these results are the best I've had. I've tried Vaniqa, the supplements, I'm on the meds to help with af and am on spiro and tried electrolysis once. I'm optimistic and just wish I would've shelled out the money sooner. I had a treatment a couple years ago at a place I was not impressed with and it kinda scared me off the idea of laser for awhile. It felt like a waste of money and a big disapointment I am now going to a spa that specializes in it and I love them. I feel like I can talk to them about it. My boyfriend says he can't even tell the hairs there, where as before the treatment he could see the shadow all the time. I know at this point it's like I've waxed or plucked it all but that's not an option for me. With laser it doesn't have to be grown out. With laser I can go on any day and don't have to be a hermit for a week before to let it grow out to be waxed or electrocuted (which takes tooo much time and hurts 10x worse than laser). And I definately don't have the time or patience to tweeze. I'm not squemish about anyone seeing me without makeup right now (went to get dinner and the gas station tonight with no makeup on. I haven't done that in years!) and I'll let my bf touch my face without getting sick to my stomach.
I guess it's all how you look at it. For Cysters this is a life long "problem" we have to deal with. It's never going to go away but we can deal with it. Having our hormones, weight and other irritating problems in order will help almost all the results and in some fix it completely. Just don't look for a miracle going into anything. Think "this may work and that would be great. But it may not and I'll be ok." I'm happy with the baby steps because I don't expect giant leaps. But laser at this point is a big baby step for me.
