Unexpected development, prayers would be much appreciated
The original plan was to go the normal route. Submit our dossier to China, wait a year or so and then go get our healthy little baby Isabelle. I'm not so sure on that anymore. Our agency published their waiting child list today and there's a little girl on there I just can't tear myself away from. I've been staring at her all day. She will be 2 in May, making her only 7.5 months younger than Sam. She has a giant hairy nevus covering most of the right side of her face. Other than that she is described as being very healthy and developmentally ahead. I've done a bit of research on hairy nevus today. It seems that if left to itself, it has a 10-15% chance of becoming cancerous (malignant melanoma, the most deadly of cancers) before she becomes a teenager. It can be removed through a series of surgeries involving either skin grafts or tissue expansion. The process, based on examples of other children who had similar sized and placed nevi, would take about 1.5-2 years to complete and would be fairly uncomforable for her. It would lower her risk of cancer and as an added bonus, by the time she went to school, most people would not be able to tell she'd ever had it. This little girl is just so cute. Despite the huge black growth across half her face, all I can see is this adorable little person.
I don't even know what DH will think of this. We had agreed that we didn't want to take on a lot of surgeries and such, feeling that it wouldn't be fair to the children since we are already very busy with Sam's special needs. I just can't tear myself away though. And so, I'm going to present my case to DH when he gets home tonight. I'm not going to ask him to make a decision tonight, only to please think and pray about just requesting more information on her. I want to be sure that we do what is best for everyone in our family. Right now I just feel so drawn to this little girl. I would appreciate any prayers/pt's that we would come to the best decision for all involved.

Saying prayers for you Brandy!!!!! I know what it is like to fall head over heels with a child by only seeing their picture. We feel in love with Billy that way.
Keep the faith girl!!!!

Oh Brandy, what a big, huge, gracious heart you have. Many people don't even *think* of children like that...ever. I think the fact that you are just even thinking about her shows that there just might be something there...you just might be her forever family!
I will most certainly keep you all in my prayers. Whichever way things turn I know it will be the right one for your family. I send you all my thoughts tonight.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts. I talked to DH last night and showed him her picture, along with some of the research I've done. At first he was all for it, but wanted me to call the insurance and verify they would cover her surgeries.
As we talked though he started to lean more away from it, for reasons that don't really have anything to do with her SN. I have to admit that some valid points we made. Still, I can't stop thinking about her. We've both agreed not to say yes or no right now, but just to think and pray about it for a few days. We said a prayer last night asking that we make the right decision, and that if we're not her family, one would be found for her soon.

Sounds like a fair and reasonable conclusion for now
I saw a child on a waiting board once that I still think about and it was years ago..he was a little boy from Kazakhstan now each time we have/are adopting we have been led away from Kaz but I still think about him all the time and hope he found his forever family...
Oh {{{Brandy}}} I'm with you on this. DH and I have been planning to adopt from Taiwan this time and just about a month ago a friend of mine was looking at a SN little boy in Guate. and wanted me to take a look. I did and found a little girl that is believed to be hearing impaired. Due to DH and I's background, we have always talked about adopting an HOH or deaf child. I can't get her out of my mind.

I don't know if you remember or not, but it was a sibling group of 4 girls that led us back to foster to adopt. We truly thought they were meant to be our children. After we completed the classes, the mom started working the program again. They are STILL in foster care. I love these girls so much and I want what is best for them.
Last week I got on our state's foster care website and saw all of these older children just waiting for a mom and dad. Unfortunately, DH and I don't see eye to eye and the # of children we should have. It's heartbreaking to see a child and feel a special connection.
I pray that God will give you peace with whatever decision you and DH make.

A friend of mine found a SN girl w/ another agency a couple weeks ago. They accepted her & are even switching agencies (they were LID 4 months ago). It's way more work & more $$ but they were drawn to her so they switched agencies & are now waiting for everything to go through.
I too thought it would be bad/sad news like Lisa so I'm happy to hear it's this news! Like I told my friend, it'll all work out for the best
Good Luck!!!!

After more discussion tonight, and a lengthy phonecall with our China coordinator this afternoon, we have requested the file for review. Right now we're looking to see the reactions of our close friends and family, and trying to find a surgeon who can look at the pictures and give us some kind of prognosis. I can't believe I was sitting her totally freaked out at the idea of a 24 month old just a few weeks ago. By the time we get her home, she'd be working on 3!
ETA: We won't receive the file until Monday morning since no one is in the office over the weekend.

OK, can I ask a stupid question? Is Isabelle Emily the name you have picked out for whomever you decide to adopt or is that a specific person?
BTW, your son is so cute!!!!
