Default Update - 6 weeks on Levoxyl

The good news: my menstrual cycle is becoming more and more normal. I think I actually ovulated on CD14 this month! I don't feel quite as cold anymore. We used to have to keep our heat on 73/74...but now I'm usually fine at 70/71! My energy level isn't great, but it's definitely improving. Oh and my libido has finally returned! Hubby is quite happy about that...lol

The bad news: my free T4 and T3 are actually LOWER now than they were before I started treatment! Here are the labs:

Labs BEFORE starting Levoxyl:

10.02.08 TSH – 7.613 H (range 0.350 – 5.500)
10.02.08 T4, Free – 1.22 (range 0.89 – 1.80)
10.02.08 T3, Free – 3.0 (range 2.3 – 4.2)

Labs after being on Levoxyl 50mcg for 5 weeks:

11.13.08 TSH - 3.149 (range 0.350 – 5.500)
11.13.08 T4, Free - 1.05 (range 0.89 – 1.80)
11.13.08 T3, Free - 2.9 (range 2.3 – 4.2)

Why the heck are my frees going DOWN?? Shouldn't they be going up? And my STUPID endo wants to keep me on 50mcg!! GRRRR!!!

6 weeks isn't too soon to raise the dosage is it? I think my water retention has increased, my skin is horrible, my brain fog hasn't changed much, I gained a pound and I still don't feel like exercising. So...still a long way to go, but at least I'm seeing some progress.

I asked the endo for an increase and of course he ignored my symptoms and said no. So I went to see my PCP today and he agreed to increase my dosage to 75mcg I'm never going back to that endo again. He and his staff are HORRIBLE! I was soooo lethargic over the weekend - all I could do was sit on the couch and watch movies. Hopefully this increase will start me back in the right direction.

Rainbow, your numbers look good from what you posted. Free t4 and t3 fluctuate constantly, both in response to your body's needs and your daily rhythms. TSH for sure is headed in the right direction. Hope you continue to improve on your new dosage!

I've struggled with the lethargy and the effort it takes to do anything. Things have improved a little on levoxyl/cytomel combo. I did just levoxyl for 8 yrs and needed more to jump start my body in the morning so the cytomel was prescribed. Seriously, in the AM it's like coming out of hibernation. While not a cure-all, cytomel is worth asking about if you are staying on levoxyl and you still feel crummy. I also began taking 250mg of b-12 every day and that appears to even out my energy. I used to do a "super-b" complex with all the b-vits, but it just seemed to make me pee more often, pee neon yellow, and not do much else. Hope this helps.

Hi I'm new at soulcysters, and just like you i can relate, I'm hypothyroid and also have pcos, my tsh numbers were up to 54.6 when diagnosed hypothyroid, i started on 50mg of synthroid and still felt terrible I kept asking my doctor for a higher dosage and he kept telling me my numbers were fine, finally i decided to start taking a higher dosage with the help of a friend of mine that happens to be a nurse, you see she was giving me the other 150 mgs that i needed. I decided to get out of the country and found a doctor that could prescribe me the amount that I needed. Luckly I found that doctor and once I got back in the states I switched to a different endo and told him, Look I am already taking 200mgs I did it on my own so tell me whether your willing to help me or I'll just keep on looking for that one doctor that does not look at the stupid numbers but at me the person that is struggling with this...lol luckly I shocked him and he agreed on it...lol now He also gave me metformin after a whole bunch of tests, sorry for the long story but what I'm trying to tell you is keep on switching doctors if you're not happy, A good doctor is hard to find but if you want to feel better do not give up, keep on looking, luckly for me I had the oppurtunity to get out of the country and find the help that i needed somewhere else and I think that is what worked in my favor. Good luck

Thanks you guys! I felt *awesome* the first day on 75mcg, but since then I haven't felt much different I've been feeling tightness/mild pain in my upper back/neck/shoulder region since the increase, along with some very mild headaches...not sure what that means. I sure wish I had some energy...
