well i saw the doctor again and still a no go. she wont refer me. all she did was give me yet ANOTHER pill. this time she has given me a high dose ocp. it has 50 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol in it. this scares me big time. im already on a pill with 35 micrograms in it. im worried that it will make me more at risk for blood clots seeing as i have had DVT before and im still at risk for it. add in the fact that im on cyklokapron and its pretty worrying. im also worried it will cause me to gain weight like crazy. to me, that is a HIGH dose and i dont expect to take it without side effects. ive also read just then that high dose ocps can raise blood sugar. last thing i want is to have my sugars pushed over the edge. they are mostly fine now and i want it to stay that way!
im going to get a second opinion from someone and hopefully get a referal. its silly to treat symptoms without knowing the cause, if there is one at all. this is just getting stupid and dangerous now with all these tablets. until i get to see a gyno, should i take the new ocp or just leave it until i see someone who will actually bother investigating my problems? the pms and breakthrough bleeding is getting worse now. my last period was also the heaviest ive had in years. ive had enough!!!!!!!!

Definitely get a second opinion! Also, most people don't know this, but, you can demand to be referred to a specialist. You may have to fight for it, but it IS your right to get the medical attention you deserve! It took me 4 years before I stood up for myself to General Practitioners and demanded to be taken seriously, but when I finally did it was SO worth it! Also, if you are concerned about the prescription that the doctor gave you will cause you more harm than good then I wouldn't take it. I'd definitely try to find a doctor that will take your concerns seriously. Good luck to you.

Hi There! I am new to all this, but I would start out by finding a new doctor. I noticed there was a thread on here that is for posting doctors and looking for doctors. Also, you said your symptoms are getting worse, but you are worried about taking the new meds, just because something is prescribed doesn't mean you have to take it. You can say no to your Dr. Keep in mind you are paying her to make sure you are treated with respect, dignity and to help you to get healthy. You might want to check with your insurance and see if there is a way you can bypass the referal with the way your Dr. is acting. If you are in Texas by any chance, let me know and if you are close enough maybe I can get you in with my Dr. He doesn't have a lot of experience with PCOS, but he diagnosed me my first visit and has been looking up stuff with me to see what our options are for treatment. Plus he actually listens and takes all things into consideration. I wish you the best!
Have you tried finding a Women's health centre or going along to see a gynocologist? I wouldn't think you'd need a referal for a Gyn. Sometimes it just takes finding the right place.
If the Doctor isn't working, fire the Doctor. If you're concerned about the prescribed treatment definitely get a second opinion.
Your health comes first, if you are constantly bleeding or bleeding too long you definitely need to get help and soon. I know what people think when this happens, I'll just wear a sanitary pad and hope it goes away on it's own - but by then you could be anemic. When I was younger it happened to me and I was ill for a long time.
good news guys. i saw my specialist and nurse for my other condition today, i told them about my problems, asked them for a referal and got one straight away! they agree that the gp shouldnt just be handing out god knows what pills like that without knowing for sure what shes dealing with. they even went to the trouble of asking other doctors for recommendations and ended up referring me to someone who is apparently one of the best where i live. i hear it can be quite a wait for the gyn im seeing but at least ive got the green light now! horay! hopefully i will get some answers, and if no answers, a more informed opinion on what pills i should be taking.
Okay - now I get the wait! I'm also Aussie but I live in the U.S on and off, so I figure there's got to be a women's health centre - but no... just a waiting list - it's happening all over isn't it?

tell me bout it! the waiting lists for any kind of specialist are huge. and these are private specialists too, not public. i think people actually get in to see public doctors faster now days!
i rang up for an appointment, the doctor doesnt do gynaecology anymore, only obstetrics. WHY CALL YOURSELF AN OB/GYN THEN? sheesh. call a second doc, cant get in till NEXT YEAR. not only that, but they only gave me 2 options of 'why you want to see the doctor'. pregnancy or abnormal pap smear. ummm ok? neither thanks. maybe i should just say im pregnant, seems like they dont give a damn about you if you arent. now im just going to have to draw names out of a hat and ring them. god knows if whoever i ring is good or not, but looks like i have no choice in who i see now.
