Default An update- and sharing an AMAZING resource!

So... an update.

I found an amazing website on the WI. health department website- it's not focused on WI though- so some of you might make use of it too if you qualify-

www.rxoutreach.org

This website let me get my spironolactone for $20 for 6 months worth of meds. When I'm taking 100mg/day, and that's 4 pills per day- that's a lot of pills! At walmart it's $9 for 30 pills... which is about a week's worth.

Metformin is the same price as spironolactone.

For a bcp, I figured out how to apply for the state's "family planning waiver program" which gives out free bcp's... Not that I intend to NEED them for their intended purpose- the purpose that the state gives them to me... but I am glad the program exists to benefit me, lol.
(I try not to think about the other things the program does- because as a pro-life nursing student... I don't like the thought that the program also provides free abortions to women as well.)

So- I still don't have insurance, but I've shaved down the cost of my meds from $70 per month, to about $10/month.

I LOVE the www.rxoutreach.org site. You have to send a paper prescription to them, along with the payment for your meds, and you get them about 2 weeks later... so the downside is that you have to wait for them- but long-term use, like we PCOS'ers have... that's ok

They have over 300 meds on their list- lots of generics- "for treating most chronic illnesses"- that's their purpose... they have several tiers of cost- starting at $10 for 6 months, up to $30 for 6 months.. and then some other tiers that include controlled substances and some more expensive drugs- and I think the highest the prices for ANYTHING are like, $65 for 3 months worth of some specific drugs.

I just thought this might help someone else, too.

They have an income requirement- $32k income for 1 person- but you add like $9k onto that for every additional person in your family... and for that matter- they don't verify that with anything at all.

OMG you are my hero!! Long story short, my DH's heart stopped in June and has to be on a ton of medications, & i need my PCOS meds along with my anti depressants and such. We just moved out of state 60 days ago and we both have since lost our jobs. I have been panicing trying to figure out how we are both going to get our medicine with no insurance and with out going broke.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this website!! It made me cry when I read about it and checked out the website. Just knowing that this option is out there has taken a huge weight off of my shoulders. I am going to call my Dr tomorrow and get my prescriptions sent to me as well as my husbands and get the ball on the roll.

Thank you so much for sharing this information and website.

Thanks for the info!I will have to check out the site for another med I take. So far I get the best deal at walmart without using my insurance...I take 1000mg of metformin per day and a 3 month supply is only $10.

Thank you so much for this website. I recently lost my insurance, and have had to do without some of my medicines because I can't afford to pay full price for them (who could). I am going to call my doctor and get prescriptions to send into them. Thanks again!!!

Yeah- that's how I was getting my met. and then I realized that the "3 month supply" they gave me, wasn't for taking 2000mg/day... it was 180 500mg tablets...or something like that- I calculated that it'd last me a month and a half instead... and the prices on the RxOutreach site just went down- so that I could get a 6 month supply of Metformin- in the dosage that I need it- for $20. Same for spironolactone- with that one I just about died from shock when I brought my prescription to walmart the first time- the pharmacist asked me if I had insurance, and I said no, these are on the $4 prescription list- I looked.... then they rang up the spiro, and I was plunged into shock, when I heard their price, being something upwards of $100.... (prescription was for 360 tablets) I didn't know what I was going gto do... so for the first few weeks I was buying a "30 day supply" that really equaled a week's supply, (my doctor had me on 100mg/day, and they are 25mg tablets) for like $9.40 each week.... so I started hunting and found the RxOutreach place.
I don't get my bcp from them, but that's because I can get that for free through the state's "Family Planning Waiver" program...
