So... an update.
I found an amazing website on the WI. health department website- it's not focused on WI though- so some of you might make use of it too if you qualify-
www.rxoutreach.org
This website let me get my spironolactone for $20 for 6 months worth of meds. When I'm taking 100mg/day, and that's 4 pills per day- that's a lot of pills! At walmart it's $9 for 30 pills... which is about a week's worth.
Metformin is the same price as spironolactone.
For a bcp, I figured out how to apply for the state's "family planning waiver program" which gives out free bcp's... Not that I intend to NEED them for their intended purpose- the purpose that the state gives them to me... but I am glad the program exists to benefit me, lol.
(I try not to think about the other things the program does- because as a pro-life nursing student... I don't like the thought that the program also provides free abortions to women as well.)
So- I still don't have insurance, but I've shaved down the cost of my meds from $70 per month, to about $10/month.
I LOVE the
www.rxoutreach.org site.

You have to send a paper prescription to them, along with the payment for your meds, and you get them about 2 weeks later... so the downside is that you have to wait for them- but long-term use, like we PCOS'ers have... that's ok
They have over 300 meds on their list- lots of generics- "for treating most chronic illnesses"- that's their purpose... they have several tiers of cost- starting at $10 for 6 months, up to $30 for 6 months.. and then some other tiers that include controlled substances and some more expensive drugs- and I think the highest the prices for ANYTHING are like, $65 for 3 months worth of some specific drugs.
I just thought this might help someone else, too.
They have an income requirement- $32k income for 1 person- but you add like $9k onto that for every additional person in your family... and for that matter- they don't verify that with anything at all.
