Default Update and wellbutrin ?

I met with my therapist today for teh first tiem and he is giving me a referal to the psychiatrist for a wellbutrin perscription.

He doesn't think it's PPD since I am adjusting very well to being a mom..he said "sounds like old fashion depression to me"

Can anyone share personal stories about wellbutrin?

I have never been on that med before, but I have heard it works well for people. Just be sure to monitor your side effects for the first few weeks and be sure if you don't notice an improvement in your depression to get switched to something different........

Best of luck, and keep, keeping us posted

I use Wellbutrin. Other ones I've tried include Celexa, Prozac and Effexor. Wellbutrin is the only one that hasn't caused sexual side-effects for me.

It did help me quite a bit....it made me normal enough to be functional again. However, I was still not a happy person. I had a lot of stuff to work through still. The big change for me came when I finally got onto thyroid meds. Even after that, I had a lot of thinking to do and it's been hard...but I'm getting to a place I like now.

I was on Wellbutrin and Wellbutrin XL and I did really well on them. When I was on some of the others like Celexa and Lexapro, I was jittery at times. Remeron made me gain 40 lbs. I didn't have those side effects with Wellbutrin. I'm celibate, so if there were any sexual side effects I didn't notice. The only reason I'm not still taking it is because I don't have insurance so I decided to stop taking it and continue taking my PCOS meds. I can't afford all of them...Luckily I've found that my depression has stayed in check since July when I stopped taking wellbutrin, and I think it's because the PCOS meds are correcting the hormonal imbalances in my body.

Wellbutrin made me ANGRY. It was not the best med for ME. I know alot of people that took it and liked it. My Psychologist said it was not the best med. for me.

Try doing a search, use welbutrin and bad side effects as key words.

Good Luck.

Nicole

I agree w/ Nicole. Wellbutrin made me very angry. I was constantly trying to strt a fight and felt angry at the world. I kept wondering what was wrong w/ me. I can get mad like anyone else, but I am not a fight waiting to happen. I know of a friend that had the same reaction.
It's different for everyone. You might want to warn your BF to be on the lookout. I take Zoloft but tried to switch to Wellbutrin because one of it's side effects is to reduce carb cravings. Who couldn't use some help in that dept?
I hope that it works for you and you have no unwanted side effects!

Leanner, I just started taking Wellbutrin three days ago. I went to the doc and basically they don't think mine is PPD either, they figure it is stresses from work and depression... I was to the point where I could sleep 24 hours a day and not care to wake up. I hope and pray this works! Good luck!

I've been on Wellbutrin for about 6 or 7 months now, and I really really like it. I was skeptical at first, because the first week or so that I was on it I had the sudden flashes of anger the other cysters mentioned, but mine went away pretty quickly.

Wellbutrin XL has been a godsend for me- it's helped me lose weight, along with the metformin, and I feel human again for the first time in way too long. I hope it works as well for you, but if a few weeks have gone by and you're not feeling better, see if they can switch you on to something else.

Good luck! :-)

I have been on Wellbutrin for over a year. It has been a great drug for me, no real side effects excpet possibly my b/p being elevated. I'll find out more when I see my PCP. Being on meds for dperession is the best thing I have ever done (along with therapy).
