Default Using NPC to induce AF

Obviously when you are TTC, you need to be having AF So, I was reading on another post where people were saying it's not good to go longer than 3 months without AF. I have gone since January 2002 - way too long - and before that it was 2 years or so. My question is that since I won't be able to get to the Dr. for another few months, should I just take NPC myself to bring it on, or should I wait for the Dr. consult? Are there any possible bad effects if I go ahead and take it - am I putting myself in some kind of danger if I do this without a Dr's OK?

Sara,
If I were you, I would just wait. I don't think anything bad would happen, but if you are accustomed to several months between cycles, I don't think a couple more will hurt. You could call the doctor's office and ask about the whole issue. If they are interested in prescribing progesterone, then I think the cream or a prescription would be fine.
Good luck,
From a former once-a-year gal,
Sheri

Thanks Sheri. I'll probably end up waiting. That way I won't "screw anything up" as far as my bloodwork is concerned - that's why I stopped taking herbals for now - so I can get a good baseline bloodwork panel. Thanks for the advice.

I have been using the NPC, but to get mine really going after it starts. I was having my period only 1 time every 3 months and in Jan it started, but was brownish in color and no cramps. Well, I used the NPC for a few days and I got a normal flow. It has been like that for 6 months now. This month, it is a more normal light color and I am hoping that the NPC will work this time as I really wanted to have fun camping on the weekend, but it doesn't seem that it will be leaving me by then, oh well. But at least I am having my period every month. It is really bad to not have a regular or monthly cycle. You are at risk for cancer and other things. You can wait until you see your doc if you want, but if you have to wait that long, you might as well try the NPC, it can't hurt. The worst thing that will happen is that it won't work for you. Some gals have tried the Vitex, I did too, but NPC worked better for me. What works for me might not work for you. All I can say is that I feel much better when I have had AF.
NPC should do anything to your bloodwork at all.

anglewormm - using NPC ups your prog level enough to have a period, so that should show up on your hormonal blood results, right?

Katrina - NPC is Natural Progesterone Cream and Vitex is an herb that some cysters use to induce AF and increase fertility. You can get a lot of information on both in the Alternative Remedies board.

Sarabelle, from what I have read and heard, it won't increase the levels enough to show a significance.

Hmm...OK thanks anglewormm. I'll have to think about this some more.

I can definitely recommend the NPC. It does not have ANY negative side-effects and many feel that every woman should use it throughout her life.
