Default Uterine ablation

Mods, I wasn't sure where to put this, so please move it if there's a better forum.

So DH and I are thinking about making changes to our contraceptive method. I started on BCP 10 years ago for medical reasons--I would go 4-5 months without menstrating and then would have my period for 2-3 weeks. This may because I was very underweight due to an eating disorder at the time.

DH is willing to get a vascatomy to take on the responsibility for birth control, since it's been my responsibility for so long, but I'm afraid of having him do that, and then having to go back on the pill because my system is too irregular.

So, would any doctor do a uterine ablation on a woman without children, when the reason is primarily medical but also contraceptive? I really feel like taking BCP for the rest of my fertile life can't be good for me, and the side effects would be nice to get rid of, and I worry about endrometrial cancer if things go back to the way they were.

So, has anyone had that done? Did it work--i.e. did your periods cease. Were there problems? My mother and grandmother developed severe fibroids in their 30s and 40s, grandma had a hysterectomy (probably today they would have preserved the ovaries, mom needs a hysterectomy but won't get it. Would the procedure get rid/eliminate that risk? Does it provide reliable contraception or would DH still need a vascatomy to take care of that issue? He'd be willing to do that, but obviously I wouldn't want him to if it weren't necessary.

Thank you in advance for reading this, and for anyone who has anything to share.
