Default Vaginal cuts

A few months ago my vagina started itching really bad. I thought I had a yeast infection, so I used some cream. A few days later I had giants cuts on my vagina that bled really bad. I got really swollen and went into the doctor immediately. I was very upset with her diagnosis. She said I had herpes, which is quite impossible since my husband and I were both virgins when we were married. She wouldn't believe me, of course, and prescribed valtrex, which didn't work. I used cortozone on them and the cuts went away, but I still itch frequently. Has anyone heard of this, or experienced this? I'm getting desperate for an answer.

No I've never heard of that. Did your doc do any tests?

do you use rough toilet paper? it may be scratching you. is it possible that fiberglass has gotten into your laundry if you are doing home renovatoions? that wwould do it. you could have developed an allergy to your detergent/fabric softener. i would consider your toilet paper first.

i know this isnt much help. good luck!!

I've had that happen before and I most definitely do not have herpes. Often times, it's either from rough toilet paper, a slight yeast infection or sometimes I get them from sex.

That happened to my sister a couple months ago! She went to the gyno and they told her that she had herpes.... which was impossible...

And it just went away after awhile.

But she said that everything down there was swollen huge and hurt and was disgusting!

I might ask her what toilet paper she uses...

Did it only happen after you used the vaginal cream?

I had a yeast infection last month and it didn't get to be really irritated until I used the anti-itch cream that came with the Monistat pack, to try and lessen the redness. It burned like all heck, and made the rash ten times worse! I didn't even experience any itching until after I attempted to use the cream.

I use Cottonelle, so I don't know if that would be the cause. I even suggested vaginal psoriasis to my doctor since that is one of my symptoms from PCOS, but she told me it was too rare.

I've been looking at info about lichen sclerosus and that sounds like it might be it.
Thank you very much for your help.

I've had this happen to me before when I try to save a few cents and buy cheap pads. The itching is enough to drive you insane.

Did the doctor do ANY type of diagnostic testing ?? I would demand that since you do NOT want herpes in your medical record if it is not true. Everything is computerized now and HIGHLY vulnerable to use by insurance companies etc. Not sure how old you are - but you could potentially have problems with health insurance - life insurance etc down the road. It is becoming VERY common for insurance companies to deny benefits or raise rates due to items in medical records.

The doctor did a herpes test and it came back negative, but she said that she thought it was a false negative. I stopped seeing this doctor recently for obvious reasons. I'd love to get a second opinion, but since the cuts healed all I can go with is that I itch all the time.

Torielynn - it really doesn't sound like that doctor had any clue what she was talking about. But, if I'm not mistaken, it is possible to get another form of herpes (HSV 1) on the genitals that is spread from cold sores on the mouth.

In other words, if you do get cold sores (a common form of herpes that many people acquire in childhood), and you have any mouth-to-genital contact, it could potentially spread that form of the virus there.

My friend got genital herpes from her now husband. He had a cold sore on his mouth and it transferred to her genitals. I was just talking to the nurse about it the other day at my gyno's office. She said she sees it all the time. My friend would always complain that they hurt so bad, and then they would go away. That's what herpes does. If it comes back again I would get it re-checked. Watch your husband too. If he comes up with something then you know you've got a problem.

On the other hand, if it's not herpes, then I second the TP explanation. Rough TP can really do a number on the delicate skin down there. Also scented products or douches can too. I hope you feel better soon!

that is such bull****! if vaginal psoriasis is a posibility then you could have it. being rare has nothing to do it with it. you could be one of the 1 in 1,000 (or whatever it is) that actually has it. just because its rare doesnt mean that you can't have it. i would demand a test for it and switch doctors!

good luck!

I had a friend that actually got herpes from an infected towel-- go figure. At any rate, I don't have any type of herpes and occasionally I get some itching, but more irritation and then I bleed from my clitoral area (TMI I'm sorry). When it happens I usually end up using baby wipes to wipe instead of dry toilet paper-- well, baby wipes or some form of wet wipe. The irritation goes away in a couple of days and it stops hurting. I seem to be really sensitive because if there is any sort of trauma to that area I get these cuts (and I mean even rough panties).

This is a very interesting post. I have had similar experiences where twice former Dr's of mine were so sure I had herpies they actually started me on medication prior to the test results. Both times I was negitive (which I knew) and I do not have regular symptoms of herpies but after reading this I know at the time I did have symptoms of LS. Until today this was a completely unknown condition to me. I was dx with a bacterial infection and took my antibiotics and it went away. Anyone know more about it? Is it possible for it to come and go or is it something that haunts you consistantly? I have had a few more instances where I felt the cutting sensation and I was just very cautious, used baby wipes and a little neosporin, which is prob the wrong thing to do but was effective and it took the sting out.
