Well, we had her u/s today and OOOOMMMMMMMGGGGG. YES she has cysts. I could NOT believe how they looked!!!!! Of course I kept my thoughts to myself so as not to alarm her. The u/s tech said "Well, there's no doubt about this...." She was very kind to Valarie and understood that she was horribly embarassed about having to be having an ultrasound.
We'll go in to see the doc tomorrow or the next day and figure out what to do, get our plan of action. I think he want's to do some more bloodwork to check her insulin and see if she's diabetic at this point or only IR. (they are different aren't they??)
So. I'm really sad. I know that I'll have my period of 'mourning' and then we'll get going and carry on. But for now my heart is breaking that my little baby girl has to deal with THIS. For the rest of her life. Feeling a little melodramatic right now.

Well, I think it's wonderful that not only is she being diagnosed so young, but she has a well educated mother to fight for her care. I was diagnosed pretty young myself, but a fat lot of good it did me. I didn't get treatment until I was 23. I'm sorry she has PCOS, but at least she has you!
Being diagnosed early is so important and can keep so many effects of PCOS away. Your daughter is lucky in that regard. I know it is sad but I think the more you read, the more you will feel empowered.
Has she come here to talk to the other teens yet? There are also plenty of mommas here that will be glad to help her w/their experiences and what helped them. Maybe if she sees all of us and has such a huge support group as SC it will help her not be depressed about this as much.
Thanks you guys! Yes, I certainly am becoming educated that's for sure. I'm not going to just let her fall through the cracks. Fortunately she also has a wonderful doctor who, instead of saying "She's only 13 let's wait until she's 16 and see what happens" or some other such nonsense, took it upon himself to not take the chance. He suspected this from the start, and I'm so glad he's our advocate!!
Advocate or not, I'm armed with a SLEW of things to go over with him. LOL! Including genetic testing. Both of my grandmothers (my mom's mom and my dad's mom) have had ovarian cancer. As well my dad's mom has had breast cancer and is now dying of colon cancer. With those genes running around us, I'm going to find out if she has any predisposition to cancer because with this new increase risk for the uterine, ovarian etc. cancers that PCOS brings, I want to know if we need to be extra cautious. And hey, she's now got a pre-existing condition so it's not like the genetic testing is going to really hurt THAT anymore!! @@
Yes, she's been to the teen board. I think she's just made a couple replies trying to get her feet wet. I think she'll stick around. :o)

I'm glad Valarie's u/s is done and she had a kind tech taking care of her. That makes a big difference.
You are such a great mom helping her through this. It's definitely a journey, but she will have you as an ally through all of it!
Let yourself mourn when you need to. I went through a real mourning period when I was first diagnosed. It gets better. But from time to time it hits me again and I'll have a day or so where I'm kind of down about having PCOS. Being here at SoulCysters helps a lot! It must be so hard for you to see your daughter going through this, but I think it's so great that you are going on the offense to help her.
