Last weekend, I was drilled and sucked on for 2 days, most the ankles and a few on the arms. This weekend, I avoided them like the plague, but somehow they got me. I woke up yesterday morning with one on my right eye. It was so swollen I couldn't see out of it. Today it is still swollen and ice packs don't work. It literally looks as if Dh hit me, but it isn't black or blue. And boy does it itch. I managed to only get a couple of bites, but dang. My sprays don't keep them away and I bought one of those electric things that supposedly make sound to keep them away. It didn't work. Dh says it is because I taste good, lol.
I have even used those wrist things, but that only keeps them off my hands. I have a sketer net hat, but I forgot it and would not have used it in bed.
I hate those little vampires. :rant2:

Oh my, that's quite scary! I wound up getting bit by mosquitos last summer in Colorado and two weeks later was in the hospital with spinal meningitis. Yuck!
Usually I use Off brand spray and it works fine. I also use citronella (sp?) candles around us when we are out. I know that Avon Skin So Soft is supposed to work amazing at keeping the bugs off of you.
So sorry to hear about your eye! When my mom gets bit she swells and stuff too. Usually for me it just leaves a big red dot that itches to high heavens. I hope it starts feeling better soon.
Stacie M :-)

I live in Florida, in an area with lots of stagnant water, so I can't even go OUTSIDE at certain times of the day without being eaten alive. I agree with everyone else - OFF! spray and Skin-So-Soft work the best. SSS is probably better because OFF makes you smell like bug spray, but it is easier to apply than SSS.

I get bitten by any sketter within 10 miles of me! There can be a crowd of a 100 people, and I'll be the only one to get bit! I always say its because I'm sweeter then most people! hehe I'm also battling these little black flies that bite, and look as small as gnats, but they're not gnats. Mom calls them May flies. UGH! I hate this time of the year not only because its hot, but because of all the stupid bugs!!! BRING ON WINTER!

Is it something I could wear all day without people looking at me odd? Like I was wearing bug spray?

for ya! I get bit by mosquitoes NO matter what...it really doesn't matter what I wear. I do wear Off or Avon, but that just prevents them from biting in the first two minutes. good luck!

I can't really describe the smell except that it reminds me of my grandma, but my grandma worked for Avon so that doesn't help much

We went camping this weekend and I am still itching!! SSS from AVON smells kind of woodsy. I like it a lot! I need to get some before our next trip out.
West Nile Virus is big news out here right now. It is expected to show up this summer.
