I just wanted to let everyone know that Vaniqa is a GREAT product. I have been using it since the last week of August on my neck and chin area. Since then I have only had to wax once! I was very hesitant at first to purchase it because it was not covered by insurance and it was around $70 but I decided to try it just to see if it worked. Not only has it been working for me but I have had the same tube for almost 2 months now! I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts me well into November. So technically if it lasts me 3 months it doesn't even end up being $25/month!!! So I urge the women who have a problem with facial hair to try it! I never shaved my face so my facial hair was not really thick but it was dark and 'wirey' feeling. Has anyone had the success with Vaniqa that I have had? Share your stories!
Good luck!
Kristina

i use vaniqa, at first it brought me out in spots so i stopped using it but then i started again, now on my second tube and i love it, i only have to epilate about once a month and if i have to tweeze the odd stray they come out very easily. i did stop using it religiously for a while as i forgot how fast the hair could grow and it came back very feircly, so now i do not forget to use it.

Do you have to get a prescription from your doctor to get it?
What does it do exactly? Thin the hair or slow the growth or both? I was scared to use it because of the expense too. Can you use it on the side of your face too? It's embarrassing but I end up shaving my upper lip because I hate having it for even one day.
a good tip for everyone...check with whoever you use to get your meds filled.....my county has this discount card..that if your uninsured or your insurance company just wont cover the costs..that it deducts so much off your prescriptions. vaniqa was $87 at cvs for me....this card makes it $60 a tube. basically (at least in my county) local doctors and businesses donate money to this fund...and the fund is deducted each time someone uses a card. its free...and really helps!!

24, known I have PCOS since i was 16, RX'd in 2006, older sister also has PCOS.
In Canada you DO need a prescription to get it. Not sure about other places. The cream helps to slow the growth AND thin the facial hair. The only catch is you have to continue using it. If you stop, your facial hair will eventually go back to how it was previously. I think it is worth it even if you still need to continue to wax/shave/etc. Personally I have to wax less often as I said in my previous note, I still have only waxed once and it's been almost 2 months

I think it would only be useful on your face. Upper lip, chin hair, neck hair etc. You could probably use it on other areas, but I'm not sure how effective it would be. You might want to double check with your doctor.

I tried Vaniqa late 2005 and it wasn't successful for me. Despite very very thin application it still burnt areas of my face red raw and the skin began peeling off and it was just so painful to use. It really aggravated my acne and where I have to shave just erupted in fierce red angry pus filled spots and I looked terrible. I also tried it on other areas of my body (chest, stomach, shoulders) and the same thing happened. Bearing in mind, that I was never told I could use it on other areas - that was my decision.
Just for the record, it's a prescription only medicine in the UK.
It's rx only in the states too. But, I figured I would try it, even though it is pricey, and it has worked great! I was hesitant because there were cysters who reported it didn't do anything for them, but I've been VERY pleased with the results so far. I have *much* less facial hair, and it's not as coarse.

I'm very happy it's worked for you and everyone else in this thread
Luckily, thanks to the way healthcare is organised in the UK, cost wasn't really an issue for me trying Vaniqa. Here, there's a standard prescription charge for every drug and/or appliance regardless of actual retail cost. The advantage being that more expensive drugs like Vaniqa cost a lot less. The downside being, that the very expensive drugs for conditions like, cancer may not get on the NHS because someone somewhere decided they weren't cost effective. On a private prescription you would get them much easier as the state isn't footing the bill.
Similarly, GP and hospital appointments are paid for via taxes so I don't have to worry about the bill or whether my insurance carrier covers it like some people have to.
Normally, I whinge like heck about the UK, but at times like this, I am very appreciative to be living here!
