Default Vaniqua

Hey Cyster, My doctor prescribed Vaniqua for me. She didn't go into detail about it. But she did mention that my insurance probably wouldn't cover it so I'll have to pay out of pocket. Can anyone please give me some more info about it and does it actually work, before I go breaking my pockets. I think its a cream for the face.

hi there, the last time i went to my gyn he asked me if i would be willing to try the cream aswell but he said that i would be the first person that it has been prescribed to because it was new to them but then he went on to say that you maybe have to wax or shave so that the cream has the maximum effect for you but that put me of because im very paranoid about waxing or shaving my face in case it gows back in stubly but he told me to read up on information about the cream then i was to tell him if i wanted to try it once i go back to see him in march.

Post My Vaniqua Results

I used Vaniqua. My insurance originally denied it because they said it was used for "cosmetic" reasons; however, I appealed their decision and they approved the prescription when my dr. wrote a note stating it was not for cosmetic reasons, but medical due to my disease. I think without insurance it was about $60.00 for a tiny tube that if used 2x day wouldn't even last a month. Now, after all of that jumping through hoops to get it approved, it did not really work for me. I read a lot of stories on this board of others who also stated that it caused ingrown hairs...I didn't really think about it, but it really does/did! My face was a disaster because they would get infected. I have since stopped using it. (Dr. renewed rx for a year and I didn't even get it refilled). I have had great success with taking Spironolactone instead. Do some research on the boards or email me if you have any questions. Hope my 2 cents helps, for whatever it's worth!

I've been using Vaniqa for about a month now and I am still using the same tube I started with and I still have loads left in it...so I would say it will last me another month. I am using it on my chin/neck, upper lip and sideburn area twice a day.

I get electrolysis on my chin and sideburn area and I shave my upper lip and I must say I am noticing a difference. I only have to shave my upper lip twice a week now. And electrolysis I havent got done since before christmas and I normally got it done every 1.5 weeks.

I live in Ireland and our insurance doesnt cover any meds prescribed as far as I know so I didnt even bother trying to recover the cost. It costs €66 here for a 30g tube.

I do think its working for me so far. I would recommened it to other people. But everyone is different and it might not work for some people as I havent had any ingrown hairs or it hasnt effected my skin in any way.

Default I've been using Vaniqa

I've been on it about 6 weeks. I've always had folliclitus, so I haven't noticed any MORE ingrown hairs or bumps. My dermatologist also gave me a liquid antibiotic to help the folliclitus.

It costs about $56 at Walgreens and insurance does not cover it. I think a tube is going to last about 2 months. I use it on my chin, neck, upper lip, and the sides of my face twice a day. My doctor told me it would take about 8 weeks to work, but I think it is already helping. I have not been able to take aldactone yet because it was going to be too much diuretic along with my BP med. My family physician has changed my BP med, so whenever my mail order for that arrives, I will be able to start the aldactone. He warned me that the high dosage of aldactone required to supress hair growth might make me stupid, and if I felt like my brain wasn't working right, to check back with my gyno who prescribed the aldactone.
