Anyone else hear this song and wonder if you should let your kids listen to it or get offended when Larry was singing about great Aunt Ruth having a beard and it felt weird? I am debating sending a letter to Big Ideas and suggesting that they be a little more careful about not making fun of people especially for things they can't control. What are your feelings on the issue?

I teach the preschool class of our church's vacation bible school. we were listening to that song and i almost started to cry (stupid hormones, crying at everything theses days) I love Veggie tales but they should be a little more sensitive. some of us don't have control over that kinda thing!
comments like that make me cringe. I can't stand the "bearded aunt" bla bla joke. It's NOT funny and it gets old. Write to em and give them a piece of your mind!
My nephew is three and he LOVES veggie tales. He also LOVES his Aunt Nell (me) and would not want to see anything upset her like that would. So, although I haven't heard the song in question yet, you can bet your buns that had, I would have already given them a piece of my mind!!!
I agree with all of you beautiful ladies....I feel that part of the song is unnecessary and should just be eliminated. I am happy that you are so passionate about this! ::Hugs::

I'm going to be a little different on this one... that song doesn't bother me. I do have facial hair that I try to keep shaved, and normally I wouldn't want people making jokes about such things... but for some reason this particular instance doesn't bother me.
I haven't heard the song, but it would definitely bother me. It isn't right to teach kids to make fun of people b/c they are different. I thought we are suppose to teach them tolerance and acceptance?
I too am so sick of the "whisker" jokes they do on sitcoms (ie That 70's Show, Will and Grace) usually it turns me right off the show and i never watch it again...

I'm gonna go with cylynne on this one. I've heard this song soooooo many times and it doesn't bother me. Now, I don't have the facial hair problem that some of you do and maybe I'd feel differently if I did. My paternal grandmother had a prominent mustache though, and one of the few things I remember about her was how bristly it was when she kissed me. I don't think that any offense is meant by that line - my daughter has been listening to the Veggies for the last 6 years, but has also watched me bleach and pluck. I can't say she's ever connected that particular line with people she's seen - me or anyone else. JMO

You basically spoke for me too.
But if it is hurtful to others, it doesn't hurt to let them know how you feel....but I am sure they mean't no harm.

I am sure they meant no harm also and probably just needed a rhyme. I was just thinking about it bc DS recently commented on my facial hair (and I had JUST plucked). We also had just been watching that song...I don't know it is a hard call. I have been going back and forth over it for years...maybe it is time to write (or not) and just let it go.
