I am new to this group, because lately I have become concerned about my long-time diagnosis with PCOS. I was told that I probably had PCOS when i was 17 (6 years ago). I was given birth control pills to regulate my periods and Spironolactone, to help with the very minimal facial hair growth that I had (I stress very minimal because I realistically did not have much hair growth- this was more of a vanity thing and an attempt to look like everyone else in my high school). I haven't really thought about PCOS all too much ever since I found out 6 years ago. But lately, I've been getting sick after eating. Very nauseated, dizzy, unfocused and distant, with very bad headaches. I made a doctor appt for next week, realizing that this could be a diabetic issue (knowing that PCOS is likely caused by insulin issues and the fact that my mother is diabetic). This issue and the thought that I am diabetic as a result of PCOS has brought up other concerns. I have met a wonderful man who I can not wait to have children with. We are not married yet, and I do want to wait until I am married (maybe 3 years) until I conceive. Other then the birth control and Spironolactone, I have done nothing in regards to my PCOS. I am very heathy and am at a normal weight of 137 (height 5'6"). I exercise regularly, which I have heard helps fertility in issues like this.
My worry is that I will not be able to have children. Does anyone have any more information on this? The longer I wait to have children, does this mean it will make it more difficult? Has anyone ever experienced the symptoms described above and have any information to pass on as to what it could be? If I am diabetic or pre-diabetic, is this going to lower my chances of being able to get pregnant?
I find myself very stressed out about this as of late, because I have realized that I do dearly want to have children and would like to take any and all necessary steps to eventually become pregnant down the road.

I just wanted to say that I've have struggled with PCOS related issues since I was a teen (was eventually dxed at 30!) and that despite what I've been through over the years I was able to get PG and have kids.
Yes, there are women with fertility issues but you really won't know until you start trying. I'm gathering you're 23 now... I had my kids at 26, 28 and when this new one is born I'll be 34.
Everything is possible - the biggest helping hand you can give yourself is to look after and manage your condition in the meantime
Thank you for your response Paulalouise- it is actually very encouraging. Being so young and not yet having trying for children leaves me very ignorant about all of this.
Are you or have you had pre-diabetic or diabetic issues?
((Hugs)) PCOS can be really frustrating sometimes. Hang in there. Your symptoms sound a lot like hypoglycemia to me. It sounds like me a few years ago. If I waited too long to eat, or ate poorly, I would get sick to my stomach, space out and sometimes forget where I was. My doc told me I was hypoglycemic. I eliminated most simple carbs or eat them with protein. I also have a healthy snack mix I eat between meals, regardless of whether I'm hungry or not. These changes were enough to get my blood sugar under control. I'm not diabetic but I was just diagnosed PCOS this year so I still need to get IR investigated. As far as the pregnancy thing- there are SOO many PCOSers on this board who've successfully gotten pregnant. I would recommend starting as early as you can, you never know how long/short it will take. Talk to your doctor about your plans so you can come up with long term and short term managment of PCOS while hoping to conceive.

I just wanted to reassure that having PCOS is not a life sentance of infertility. At the moment you have everything on your side - youth, you are healthy.
When you decide to start TTC one thing to concentrate on is the regularity of your cycles and also if you are ovulating. If not then do not despair - there are drugs which can help with both of these problems...
I was told when I was 18 that it would be 'highly unlikely' that I would ever have children...however just over 2 years following this, I fell pregnant with my daughter. I was taking metformin, which helped me loose the excess weight (I love over 40lbs) and this helped my cycles regulate to a point where they were between 33 and 35 days long.
I've now been trying for 20 months for number 2 and have been back on Met since March... I'm below the weight I was when Ifell pregnant with DD and my cycles are regular at 33 days.
It can be more difficult for women with PCOs to have children but it deffinitely is not impossible...come over and check out the amount of activtiy on the mommy board to see this....and whilst some women have had a long road to get there with lots of heartache, others (like myself) have just needed a little helping hand to achieve their miracle!
I'm afriad I don't know much about diabetes or your symptoms but I hope the doctor can help you with that.
Please don't stress about the future - as I said you are young and healthy and there are plenty of options to explore should you have difficulty when the time comes...
You are ONLY 23 (very young) and you are not overweight so I am sure you won't have too much of a problem. :0)
some times it might take just a few months more if your cycle is irregualr but it will happen.
