Unhappy Very concerned...Help!

I haven't had a period for six months. I went to my OBGYN about 3 months ago for my annual and told him that I had not had a period in 3 months since I stopped taking my birth control pills and started trying to concieve. He said that my body had just probably not regulated itself yet since I had been on the pills for so long. I told him I had previously been diagnosed with pcos by a local endocrinologist. He said he wasn't convinced that I had the condition and was not worried about that. He did some blood work which he said came out to be normal. He told me to try to lose a few pounds and to set up an appointment to come back in three months and we would see where we were. So, thats what I did. I went in for this follow up the other day and told him that I still was not pregnant and I still had not had a period. I told him that at this point my main concern was that I had not had a period. At that point, he put me on 10 mg of Provera to jumpstart my period. He just seemed concerned in general. I am worried now that I still wont have a period even with the Provera. I am so paranoid that I will never have a child and I am only 28. My husband wants kids. Is Provera pretty reliable? Even on bigger ladies appx 300lb?

Hi there,

I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with Provera. You might even want to post this on the TTC board...the ladies over there may have some words of wisdom for you.

It might be an idea to get a second opinion - esp if you are now TTC. Maybe ask the TTC'ers if there are any specialists they can recommned in your area?

Good luck - and hopefully see you around soon.

Brooke

Provera worked on me at 350 pounds. It drove me crazy, I even had to leave early from work once because of hot flashes. Have him send you a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist. Be DEMANDING. IF he doesn't comply, fire him and seek help elsewhere.

Amandarae, I understand your concern. I've gone off the pill twice - the first time it took over three months before I had my period, and it was just a one-day thing when it did show up. They put me on Provera and it didn't work, nothing happened! I guess that's not uncommon though. Hormone tests all came back normal. Their answer at the time was "go back on the pill and you'll get your period." So I did.

Most recently I went off the pill last spring with the intent to TTC in a year. Same thing happened, although this time I stuck with it. My doctor said it could take up to a year to get periods back to normal. Hormone tests are normal, Provera does absolutely nothing for me.

While my doctor was taking the "wait and see" approach on my periods for the past nine months, a very large and painful cyst was forming on my left ovary. I finally found an intelligent doctor who knows which end is up and now I'm on Met and I had my first real period this month since last April.

Everyone's health situation is obviously different but please don't wait to seek a specialist or, at the very least, insist on an ultrasound to put your mind at ease on what's going on.

Tithers is right - go see a repro endo - kick, scream, b*tch, cry if you have to, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
