Hi everyone! I'm new here, and thought I might try to get your opinions, since I can't seem to get any answers from my doctors.
I am 29 years old, have never been pregnant. I have always been healthy and active. I have always had regular periods my whole life until the last 8 months.
In the past 2 years my health has been up and down. It started with very high blood pressure 2 years ago-and the doctor put me on a low sodium diet and exercise. That worked, and my blood pressure has been good ever since. Then, I had more bloodwork done because I had symptoms of hypothyroidism. It was high 4 different occassions, but they never gave me meds for it. On my next 2 rounds of bloodwork my thyroid was 'normal'. I also had my first ever bladder infection at this time, with no symptoms.
I have had a lot of bloodwork done over the past 9 months to try to figure out what is wrong with me, but the doctor tells me everything is fine. I have not had a period for 8 months, have had steady weight gain of about 20 lbs. during that time mostly in my lower abdomen and sometimes pain, some skin tags, no sex drive, hot flashes, night sweats, extremely tired, and an ultrasound back in March showed a 2cm cyst on my right ovary.
I had my family doctor refer me to a GYN, thinking she would know more. But she rushed me in and out so fast, it seemed she didn't take this seriously. She's sending me for more bloodwork (when I am off my pill for at least 5 days), and I have another ultrasound next week. Is this normal, or do they usually remove these cysts?
It's now been almost 9 months, and still no diagnosis of anything.
I am very frustrated and don't know if I should get a referral to another GYN or what?
Does this sound like PCOS to you?
Any advise is much appreciated...thanks!
Welcome to SoulCysters from a fellow Canuck! I am glad you found us!
This definitely sounds like PCOS to me.
Have you suggested to your doctor that you are thinking PCOS?
Not all doctors are aware of the syndrome . . so that might be helpful . . .
Good luck!

Certainly sounds like it might be PCOS. Try reading up some of the stickies about PCOS diagnosis and symptoms and take your info to your doctor. They usually are in a rush to get you in and out, but make her sit and listen to your concerns and discuss her diagnosis with you, Good luck.
I know how scary it can be - I've only been diagnosed a few months myself. But keep asking questions (and going to new doctors if you aren't happy with the one you've got and can go to new ones) and arm yourself with information.
Hi! I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. It sounds like you have pcos to me too. I'm in the process of getting diagnosed. Just had my ultrasound yesterday and I'm waiting for the results. I have some of the same symptoms you have weight gain, hot flashes, night sweats, skin tags. Well, I wish us both good luck while were waiting for answers.

I have learned more from these message boards in a few days, than a doctor ever could have told me about PCOS! I hope all of us here are able to figure out our health problems, and have them dealt with quickly and efficiently. Thanks for all the encouraging words so far.
I'll let you all know how my next U/S goes.
If you find that your current doctor doesn't seem receptive to you or does not seem to be very knowlegdable with regards to PCOS, I would definitely suggest requesting a referral to someone who will be able to help you. Doctors don't know everything about every condition, and it's very important that you are treated by someone who has extensive PCOS knowledge.
Welcome to SC! It sounds to me, too that you do have PCOS. Sometimes unfortunately doctors aren't quite as knowledgeable as this as we would like them to be, so WE have to educate THEM! I printed out some of the articles from Kat and took them to the first doctor I went to when I was trying to get my diagnosis. Maybe that would work for you. I hope you can find a knowledgeable doc and get some definitive answers! Good luck!

To me it sounds like you have thyroid. Or a hormonal imbalance. You should get your thyroid levels checked out again, maybe from a different hospital because i know different labs have different results.
