Does anyone know of anything that helps with very dry scalp?
I have used head and shoulders, selsun blue, and everything for dandruff.
For the last few months I have used tea tree shampoo and then switch off every other day with a moisturizing shampoo my hair dresser recommended. Nothing helps my scalp is still very dry and flaky. It's very embarrassing because they are big flakes.
Does anyone know of anything than can help me?

The only thing that worked for me was a prescription the dermatologist gave me for a mousse and it starts with an "L" I believe. Sorry, I don't have in front of me but it really is great.

Hi! The dermatologist prescribed an oil for me. It is similar to and maybe even contains peanut oil. No OTC products helped but this one oil did. I'll try to find the name....maybe Derma-Smoothe? Hope this helps!
I have used Head and Shoulders Medicated Treatment, it's in a dark blue bottle and is an orange colored shampoo. This is the only thing that would work on me. If you have colored hair, you really need to wash it out good though.
Hope this helps!

If you have tried everything that is OTC you may want to check with a dermatologist. I feel your pain as I am a fellow flake-head...lol, luckily for me Selsun Blue works for me...just my 2cents.

I am new to the website and ran across your posting about the dandruff. This whole PCOS bit has snuck up on me, and even though I have not be medically dx yet I am pretty sure that I have it, and I will be going to a specialist next month. I did not know that dandruff was a symptom of PCOS...but now this makes sense why I have had an increase in dry scalp. I have just noticed it within the last 2 months after my hair started thinning. I have never had dry scalp in my life!! I thought that it was a shampoo that I was using, and I also tried the Tee Trea salon stuff and that seemed to actually dry my hair out even more. So instead of trying all these professional products and going to the dermatologist I just went down to the store and bought some good old cheap Suave. The one that I have been using it on and off for the last couple of months is Suave: Humectant (it is in their professionals line). This makes my hair soft, restores some of the moisture on my scalp, and my dandruff has decreased significantly in the last month. Another product that I have always used and will continue to use that you might benefit from is "Silk Therapy" from Biosilk. This stuff is expensive, but goes a long way, a big bottle will last me almost 8 months as you only need to use a tiny amount. You can put it in your hair wet or dry. I put it in my hair when its wet when I first get out of the shower. This stuff is great for blowdrying and smoothing out your hair as well. Just remember to use a tiny bit, because if you use too much then your hair will become very oily. Another thing that I do is I don't shampoo my hair every day, sometimes I just wet it and let my natural oils take over. Some days I will only use conditioner and no shampoo. That has seemed to help too. Ok well I hope this is helpful and good luck! Let me know how it goes if you decide to try it!
Now that it's winter my super dry scalp is back with a vengeance, but I started using a copper hairbrush (purchased at CVS) last spring, and it did help a bit until the winter dryness (all my skin is very dry right now with the dry air from the heating system)
Just wanted to say that I have the same issues, too, although mine goes away for a few months, making me think that I'm doing something right (right shampoo, conditioner, etc.). But then it'll always come back for a couple months. Some days are worse than others. I feel like I've tried almost all of the dandruff shampoos out there, and I can't recommend one that's worked for me consistently. I can live with it for now, but will definitely look into seeing a dermatologist soon. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
Try massaging warm hair oil to ur hair an hour before u wash it. It really helps with dandruff. Also when you put conditioner to ur hair make sure that you cover only your hair and not the scalp. Read instructions carefully on conditioner bottle. SOme conditioners make scalp dry if used on the hair roots/scalp.
My scalp itches so bad!! Right now I'm just using a medicated shampoo which only helps temporarily. It drives me crazy because people be looking like if you just wash your hair, then you wouldn't be scratching it...lol!! Although that's not the case. I've always had dandruff but out of nowhere starting last year, it got worse. So now I'm trying to get a grasp of this mess. Hope you have found something to help.

I know you said you tried tea tree shampoo, but did you specifically try tea tree special by Paul Mitchell. It has worked really well for me and it smells really good.
I have stress induced flaking, it is so annoying!!! I understand, Selsun Blue, Head and Shoulders do NOTHING for me, but I found Nizoral...its a dark blue bottle, and they sell it over the counter. Its pricey but it works!!!!
