I have really oily hair. I don't know if it's because of PCOS because my doctor claims I don't have it.. but my hair is so oily!
I have to shampoo my hair twice a day.. and even in between then, it starts to get a little oily. Sometimes I use a makeup brush and pat it dry with baby powder, but that just conceals it. It dosen't solve the issue.
What do you guys do? Any reccommendations? Thanks!
I have the same problem. And I find it's worse when it's long -- because I end up with my hands in my hair all the time. Constantly pushing it out of my face does NOT help the oily thing. I use a salon shampoo (Mastey) that is sulfate-free. It's been better, but I can't say for sure that the shampoo is what does it. Also, my brother swears that if you can go two days or so without using shampoo, that your hair's natural oil will return and it will actually keep itself cleaner and not be nasty. It works for him, but he has really coarse hair, whereas mine is really fine. I'd need a lube job after 24 hours, but he swears by it. Hope you find something that works!

That's what my hair dresser told me too! She told me that since I was shampooing too much, I was stripping my hair of it's natural oils, and therefore, it was over-producing in order to make up for the loss. So, I listened to her and only washed my hair every other or every 2 days. OMG. My hair looked like it was LEAKING oil. Haha okay, I'm exaggerating. But really, that didn't work for me. ;[ I hateee oily hair. It makes people assume I have bad hygiene. ;[
Well, it's a pretty drastic solution if oily hair is your only problem, but an antiandrogen (like spironolactone or flutamide, or finasteride or dutasteride) would probably help.
Taking large amounts of vitamin B5 might also help. Some people swear by B5 for curing acne, so it may well cut down on your scalp's oil production if you think it's safe to try.
Taking the herb saw palmetto could in theory help as well, as it's a weak 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Have you tried a clarifying shampoo? Normal ones you can use about 1-2 times a week, but they also do make daily clarifying shampoos...clarifying shampoos are good at stripping all the gunk (and, I presume, oil!) from your hair

When I was in my early teens I had the exact same problem. I started to blow dry my hair every day and it dried out my hair to the point that I could get through a day with my hair looking clean. Now my hair type has changed over the years and it goes through periods of dryness. I have a few friends that are hair dressers and I will see if they recommend anything.

I blow dry my hair everyday. ;[ I've tried a lot of different stuff but it just doesn't seem to work. My hair is also medium/medium long in length so i touch it a lot. When I style my hair, i touch it to no end. Throughout the day, i touch it too and it just adds to the oil. I'm just hoping as I get older, my skin will start to dry up a little more.
Clarifying shampoo is a good thing to try.. Also, try rinsing with cool water at the end of your shower, I've heard that warm water leaves the pores more 'open' therfore hair becomes more oily.
I have the world's most oily skin, and while my hair is oily too, it's not as oily as it was when I was a teenager. I think that's because I've been getting it permed since I was 19.
I have fine, thin, straight hair. So when it's oily it tends to stick to my head and look even more flat and dirty. I got my first perm before my sister's wedding and liked it so much that I've been doing it ever since. I think the extra body helps to keep the oil on my scalp and not in my hair, if that makes any sense!
I get perms where all I have to do in the morning is wash my hair and let it dry. You can blow dry it but don't use a brush because it will brush the curls out. I love it because I don't really have to spend time styling it, and if I just carry a comb or brush with me then I can touch it up when it dries (I'm a college student).
Perms last for me about 8 or 9 months, so you only have to go through the torture of sitting there for three or four hours once or twice a year. Right now I"ve let it go too long and I hate how flat and more oily my hair has become. But I don't think it's more oily than it is when it's permed: it just gives the illusion that it is. Overall, it feels so much lighter and fluffier when it's permed.

I actually agree with what you're saying! I had my hair permed a few years ago and it was OKAYYYYY but it wouldn't look as oily. I think it was just because it was curly and it doesnt look all flat and dirty as when my hair is straight. I can't perm my hair though -- i blow dry my hair and style it wayy too often that getting a perm would just damage my hair some more.
Whenever I'm going out and I don't have time to re-wash my hair, I usually just curl it so hide the oil.
