Hello Matisse:
I am sorry to hear about your new diagnosis. CFS is something I considered for myself before discovering I had PCOS because a lot of the symptoms are the same.
As for the metformin, I have been on in it since March 2000, and out of all the meds for diabetes, it actually does aid in weight loss. I originally lost 57 pounds in a years time on it. Of course you have to be on a dietary restriction either low carb or the diabetic diet. I can't understand why your dr would want you on a high carb diet.
The fun side effects of Met are diarrhea and upset stomach, nausea, a bad taste in your mouth, lack of appetite, and often fatigue. But these side efffects tend to go away after 3-6 months of taking the medicine depending upon how many milligrams a day you are on. (I am on 1500mg/day)
If he does put you on met, make sure he prescribes the glucaphage XR. These are extended versions of the pill. You take them all at once, one time a day and it slowly releases into your system so the side effects are drastically limited.
Try not to let things bring you down. I know easier said than done. I have a friend who has CFS and she seems to have bounced back quite nicely and is leading a very productive life.
