i just saw my doctor last week and he told me that i'm actually diabetic. he had originally told me that i was pre-diabetic, but despite being on met for a couple of months, dropping some weight, and bulding muscle tone, my sugar levels were still too high and i'm now taking a higher dose of met. i do have a good 40-50lbs to loose. is it still a possibility for me to get off medication all together when i get the weight off? or is it too late to undo the damage?
I think that some people can completly control diabetes with a strict (very strict) diet and exercise. I am not at that point where I can be so disciplined. I take 2000mg of met (I should be taking 2500) 4mc of amryl and 52 units of lantus. I think that because you have already done good it's just a matter of keeping up with it. Use the met to help you lose weight and then you can wean yourself off little by little. During that time check you sugars alot to see if thay maintain at normal ranges. Good luck to you!!

Yes, some people are able to control their diabetes without insulin or oral meds. I guess it depends on how hard you are willing to work at it, and your self-control. I wish you the best!

Jan/Feb - Clomid 150mg, O'd, BFN
Feb/March - taking break due to 3-inch cyst
March/April - Clomid 150mg, praying...
I worked with a guy who was 170 pounds dripping wet and diagnosed with Type II. Was taking glucophage - Dr. told him to lose about 20 pounds (he's 5'7" with slight build). Anyway, he lost it and was off all his meds. It was all about diet and exercise. I don't think it is too late at all for you and I bet that if you continue to lose, you'll be able to change your med regimen. Good luck!!

its totally possible to be diabetic and not take medication or be on insulin providing ofcourse your not a T1 or insulin dependent T2 ... I was on metformin for a while, but was taken off of it becuase my body once again started using the insulin that it makes.
my mom use to be considered a T2 and has been 100% diet controled for over 20 years now, she is no longer considered to be diabetic and the doc's are actually encouraging her to stop treating herself like a diabetic because from all the testing she is no longer classified as such, even glucose tollerance test comes back normal now for her.

I found out that I was type 2 March 05. I was dx with PCOS in July 06. Before I was dx with Pcos, I was on a strict, very strict diabetic exchanges and was controlling my blood sugars just fine with diet and exercise. I ate only three meals a day and 1 fat free snack and measured and weighed everything before I put it on my plate. When my exchanges were gone for the day, I was finished. My endo put me on Metformin to help with symptoms of PCOS. He said that my A1C level is better than his, so I didn't need it for my sugar levels. Any, I think It depends on how high your blood sugar level is to begin with, if you can control it with diet/exercise and no medication. I know someone that lost 110 pounds and was completely insulin dependant before the weight loss. Now since he lost the 110 pounds, he is completely off medication and controls his levels with diet and exercise. Good luck and I hope this helps...
