Smile very very very new

ok..so basically i was diagnosed with PCOS 2 weeks ago...which was the first time I had ever heard of it! I'm still slightly confused as to why I've been put on the pill! I'm 17 years old and have been having pain for the past 5 months which prompted me to go to the doctors. They scanned me and found out that I have polycystic ovaries and just put me on microgynon straight away. I've had it for a week now, and the pain still hasn't gone. I have also heard lots of horrible stories about microgynon....could anyone enlighten me please? I'd also like to know how girls' boyfriends have reacted to them having PCOS...I have told my boyfriend (of over a year) sort of what it is but didn't tell him the specific name so that he won't google it!

Any comments/answer would be very much appreciated!!!

Welcome to SC..i'm sorry I can't be of to much help on microgynon. I told my husband about my PCOS when I was DX'd and I was a little embarrassed to tell him. He really didn't do/say anything for awhile, till we ttc. But if you really want bf to know, wait till you feel comfortable w/it yourself. So you both can discuss it. Who knows, he may want to get very involved in your future and may want to know what that future will hold w/you as well as with your PCOS. Good Luck!

thank you very much for your reply! it's not so much that I'm embarrassed about having PCOS, it's more that I dont want him to treat me differently, you know? I don't want him to worry and maybe be a bit awkward. I dont know....maybe I'm jus reading into it a bit too much!!!

Thank you for your welcome....it's so nice to be able to come on here and meet so many other women all in the same boat!

First welcome!

I'm not familiar with the microgynon but as far as your boyfriend goes - he won't care as much as you think.

...that came out wrong!

What I meant was he'll still love you - all those symptoms you're probably afraid of him finding out about? He's probably already noticed some of them. I know that was the case with my DH. I never outright discussed ALL the symptoms with him, but he read one of the books I checked out on PCOS so he knows all that's involved.

Welcome to SC!

I can't help with the medication you are taking, but wanted to chime in about BF.

I told my husband when we were dating. He didn't treat me any different, and it we grew a bit closer researching etc.

Good luck!

i have another question....

at the moment, my symptoms are acne (which is already getting better after a week on BCP), irregular and heavy periods, pain in pelvis and obviously a scan that said i had polycystic ovaries. So is it likely that I will develop the other symptoms like unwanted hair and becoming overweight? Maybe it's an impossible question to answer, but I just wanted to know whether symptoms develop over time or if if you dont get them from the beginning you wont get them at all.

I am new here so please bear with me....I have been going through all sorts of hoops in the past year and a half...first started with clomid, didn't work on its own so we ventured to IUI, just found out that it was not successful.....very confused with all of this..NOW they are sending me for GTT, but told me that I have PCOS, not dure what the next step is going to be...guess its a waiting game at this point.

With some women, PCOS symptoms just happen one after another, and in some, it happens gradually. I didn't started my crazy weight gain until a few months after I was dx'd, so yes those symptoms can still happen. Definitely do your research and follow a good treatment plan specifically for you to help ward of any other symptoms.

And with regards to your BF, I was dx'd before I met mine. In fact, we started dating a little under a year after I was diagnosed. At that time, I still wasn't very comfortable with the idea of me having PCOS. Over time as I've struggled to control it, he saw my discomfort and it did change things between me and him. I was weird accepting that he liked me and resisted it for a while. It wasn't until I told him that I became truly comfortable; he made me realize that I am attractive and worthy of being loved, PCOS be damned. PCOS doesn't have to be dealt with alone. Telling him brought us closer! While not all guys are built the same, if he is worthy of YOU, it won't matter a bit.

Good luck and welcome. We're here to support one another
