Very weird, and irritating...TMI ...Sorry, but I need some answers!!!Please
I went to my gyn about a little over a month ago due to sharp almost like someone is stabbing me, in the right lower abdomen, during intercourse with my husband. She told me there was nothing to worry about and that everything would work it's way out. I had originally gone to see her that day due to flo not wanting to end her visit....
Anyways.
Now it seems like the whole time I'm awake, I can feel a heavy pressure, kind of like something pushing against my ....hip? I'm not the greatest with anatomy.
I'm just worried to know what this is, and I"m very concerned....I'm in "pain" but yet this gyn does not seem to care. Can someone tell me if they had anything like this. I'm not sure if I explained well or not and for that I am sorry.
My sister has similar pains whenever she has had a growing cyst. I dont mean to worry you but you should maybe try another doctor. My sister has had to get them removed because they are very dangerous. Just go to another doctor...doesnt mean this is what it is but you should get seen as soon as possible.

It does worry me but like I said, I need an answer and I am so tired of doctors throwing me to the "wolves". Did your sister have her ovary removed or just the cyst?
The first time they discovered any cysts was when she was about 4 or 5 months pregnant with my nephew. While she was pregnant they removed them. They had to cause they wouldve kept growing and wouldve interfered with the pregnancy. The second time was a couple of yrs ago and she had one that was attached to her right ovary and the doctors recommended the ovary was removed along with the cyst. So now she has another one growing by her left ovary and she is scared that they might have to remove that one as well. She wants to have at least one more child but surgery is inevitable. We are hoping that the doctors tell her they can save that ovary.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about that, I hope everything turns out okay for her. I'm just completely confused that someone would just blow off someone saying "hey this hurts when this happens" and there are so many docs out there that won't do anything about it.
Jessica,
I went to the doctor for the very same complaint and was when I was first diagnosed with PCOS. I went to an internist because she was the doctor who could see me the fastest. Prior to this NONE of my many GYNs ever thought to diagnose me with PCOS even though I consistently complained of many PCOS symptoms. The pain I was feeling was from excessive cysts on my ovaries (the "string of pearls" they speak of on ultrasounds that doctors use to help with their diagnosis). I had too many fluid filled cysts that were mature eggs at some point that never got released from my ovaries. Those cysts are different than other cysts that have to be surgically removed. The first thing the doctor did was put me on birth control to stop my body from trying to produce more unreleased eggs so that my body could then absorb the fluid filled ones. The pain was always most severe around when my body would have ovulated if my body were normal. See if your doctor will order an ultrasound to see if this is the case for you as well. If the dr suggests birth control pills then you would only have to be on them for about 6 months to get your ovaries back to what a non-PCOS ovary looks like.

You need to see a better dr. I had pain & bleeding and it ended up being endometriosis & ovarian cysts. I had to have surgery to fix it all.
Please see someone different soon.
GL
PS I had pain w/ intercourse too. Found out its b/c my endo was growing on/around one of my ligaments and that is where I felt the most pain.

Find a different Dr and/or call back the current one, speak to the nurse and tell her that the pain is really bothering you, both physically and mentally because you are quite worried about it. You know the Dr said not to worry, but your gut says that you do need to worry. Would it be possible for Dr to set up an ultrasound... if your Doc isn't willing to do this, ditch her. Often times the nurses can be your best voice when a Dr won't listen... and even good Dr's have off days...
I agree with PP. The nurse will probably tell you you need another appt to discuss it, because other than advocate for you there is little else she can do. But the sheer act of showing up for a second apt to discuss just the pain issue will give more weight to it. I am sorry to say, but sometimes when docs get busy they get tunnel vision.
How did you communicate it to your doc before? If you're like me you tend to minimize and (I've done this before) casually mention it as a problem to see if they seemed concerned about it. But then, when they don't seem concerned I don't say anything but just go home and become more and more worried about it. (Well, of course they are not concerned because I only casually mentioned it and it was not a focus of conversation). THen, when I've decided I am not being a hypochondriac and there is something that needs to be investigated, I go to the doc with a plan and lay out my case seriously. Only then is when I've ever gotten responses and investigation into my problem.
The other thing I'd like to know is have you ever been pregnant? THe reason I'm asking is -while I've not been pregnant - I've had pain that feels just like what pregnant women describe as ligament pain, when the baby stretches the pelvic muscles out. For me, it was caused by a large ovarian cyst. If you've been pregnant you might know how it feels. Does it feel like that?
Good luck!

I was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 18, by my primary physician, due to crying on his shoulder about a gyno telling me, "Eh, your infertile, get over it" He ran the tests...which also included ultrasounds. I have been on Metformin since then. And this that I am asking about has just become a new issue.
I have a brand new gyno, that does not see any of this as a problem.
And I have an appointment for my primary physician on Tuesday. I will let you all know how it goes.
I'm still having the same problem which would be a sharp pain which has actually gotten worse to where at any time it will happen. I usually end up doubled over.
Thank you all for your input and caring ability. I will make sure that I post the outcome and what it turns out to be.
Also, no I haven't been pregnant before, we are still newly married and are still learning to live together.
Thanks!

I have had a similar experience during intercourse. Without getting graphic, it was a particular position that struck the nerve so to speak. Out of nowhere I began to cramp, as if someone were grabbing my insides and twisting them about.. the best way to describe the pain is to compare it to cramps.. only magnified. I've never experienced that kind of pain, ever. I think it's completely "noramal" for someone with PCOS to have pain like this during intercourse. Although I am totally clueless as to what causes it. Possibly the movements trigger cysts to "burst"?
I too am going to suggest, like PP, to find a new doctor. I went through 3 doctors before I got help. The first 2 doctors told me my ovaries were consistent with PCOS, but ran no further tests and told me that losing weight would solve my problem and they took me off of BCP because of high blood pressure. After losing 50lbs, and my periods coming to a hault for almost 3 months I went back to the second doctor because I was having severe pain but no periods and he told me the weight I lost was not enough and sent me on my way. My current doctor has been good. She did ultra sounds and blood work, confirmed my pain through family history and symptoms as endometriosis because she didn't want to do further surgeries unless nessesary and treated me for that and is now treating me for my PCOS. I know switching doctors is a pain, but when you find one that actually cares it is so worth it.

Kalyn - you have not had lap to diagnose Endometriosis? It is the only way to diagnose. It's dangerous to go on an assumption that is the cause of your problems w/o a proper diagnosis. Sorry to change the subject, but I was checked for cancer & all sorts of problems.....I would push for a lap! Plus, Endo usually means very long & heavy bleeds, not absence of periods....just be sure your dr is checking you out OK. Check out the Endometriosis Association website for reliable information or one of their books.
