Default Very worried that I have PCOS

Hi everyone. Sorry, I don't exactly know if I have PCOS or not, but I just don't know where else to turn to. Sorry if this is long, but please please, if you can, bear with me.

I first got my period when I was 10 (almost 11). It was irregular for the first couple of years as it should be, but it regulated itself out. By 8th grade it was pretty much normal (a few days late maybe). For a few months at the beginning of grade 9 I started to count calories and exercise (I was maybe 120 pounds and 5"0) but I lost around 10 pounds or so. When I did, my periods would come right on the dot, when they were supposed to. However, I got lazy and stopped, and started to eat very unhealthily. My periods became a bit more irregular (would come maybe a week or so later than normal), my skin and hair oilier, more acne, and more hair growth on face and body (not that much, but more than most). Well, it's continued on like this, except at the end of grade 10 I was going through a pretty stressful time getting diagnosed for an eye disease... at this time my period skipped, and became even more irregular. I was still eating unhealthy. Eleventh grade... there's been more hair growth... and it seems like my hair falls out a lot more easily (it doesn't even hurt when I pull a strand out and sometimes 5 or more hairs come out when I run my hand through my hair - is this normal if you have lots of hair?), and my periods sometimes skip, but most of the time come every 6 weeks or so. There was also this one really dark coarse hair on my chin that comes back every now and then after I pluck it.

Well, I've been worried I had PCOS ever since grade 10. I've been to the doctor a lot of times, about this. I've had my hormones checked (normal, and the ones for the possible tumors were normal too), I've had an ultrasound where they put the cold stuff on your stomach and look at your ovaries (normal), and I've had a 2 hour oral glucose tolerance test, and my blood sugar levels were normal, but they didn't check my insulin levels.

Now I'm worried that they need to check my insulin levels? Because I have a family history of diabetes on both sides, and have darker skin on my underarms and groin area and ever since I was young I've eaten quite a bit of sweets. Sometimes I'm really sluggish, sometimes I never seem to be full, sometimes I can sleep for 15 hours, and I get really anxious sometimes. (Depressed too).

I know I had all of those tests, but I'm still really worried and I don't know what to do now. I'm not sure if I can really trust my doctor, because he told me that PCOS has nothing to do with insulin resistance (checked me anyway because of family history), and that the only concern with PCOS is getting pregnant and even if you do have it, you can take some pills to help you. He also said having darker skin at your underarms and groin is normal with people who have my skin type? Please give me your opinions. Does it sound like I could have PCOS? Should I ask to get my insulin levels checked?

Right now my BMI is 26 (overweight).

I'm sixteen now, turning seventeen in a couple of months.

Thanks in advance. It's really appreciated.

Based on that statement alone, your parents might want to consider looking into another physician for you.
