I've been reading alot about the effects of apple cider vinegar on your blood sugar and insulin, so I decided to try it out. I got the tablets instead of the liquid though, because I was worried about it making me sick since I am on Met and nausea is an issue for me anyway. So I was wondering, for those of you who do the tablets, how do you take it? How often and how much and when? Also, do you feel like it is helping? Is anybody having any side effects from it? Thanks so much!
I don't have an answer for you but I'm curious too. Where did you find the vinegar tablets? I sure hope someone else can give us a good idea how much to take and when. Thanks for starting this thread.

I got them at Vitamin World. The girl at another vitamin store said that she'd heard of several people using them to help their blood sugar, but didn't know exactly how/when. Hopefully someone here will have a good suggestion for us!
Good question I would lvoe to know! Glucophage did nothing for my IR and I have heard a few things about Vinegar.

This was posted a while back in another apple cider vinegar thread here:
Am Diet Assoc. 2005 Jul;105(7):1141-4.
Esophageal injury by apple cider vinegar tablets and subsequent evaluation of products.
Hill LL, Woodruff LH, Foote JC, Barreto-Alcoba M.
Abstract Apple cider vinegar products are advertised in the popular press and over the Internet for treatment of a variety of conditions. After an adverse event was reported to the authors, eight apple cider vinegar tablet products were tested for pH, component acid content, and microbial growth. Considerable variability was found between the brands in tablet size, pH, component acid content, and label claims. Doubt remains as to whether apple cider vinegar was in fact an ingredient in the evaluated products. The inconsistency and inaccuracy in labeling, recommended dosages, and unsubstantiated health claims make it easy to question the quality of the products.

As for Apple Cider Vinegar tablets, they honestly see them at Dollar Tree stores. So a dollar a bottle is worth a try!~ Right now I am taking a b complex vitamin from there and Grapefruit extract, (to help ewcm) They also sell baby asprin and it all total saves me about 50 dollars a month on suppliments.
Just a heads up.

About two days back I started to feel run down, sick to my tummy and very shakey. I had a thirst like never before and I could not seem to quinch it. My mother who is diabetic had me test my blood sugar level with her monitor and to my utter horror it was 167 the highest its even been. She then pulled out these vineger and apple pectin tablets that she bought over the counter at wal-mart in the diet section. She had me take only two tablets and after about an hour she tested my blood level again and it dropped to 124. By the time I went to bed (3hrs later) it was tested again and it had dropped to 99. So Im a huge believer in the usefullness of those tablets. I now take two tablets daily and have made them a part of my supplement treatment.

Just to say for the UK women here... you can get both apple pectin and cider vinegar capsules at any Holland & Barretts. I hope they're going to be in the next *better than half price sale* as I get a lot of my PCOS stuff when their sales are on!
Also to say that I'd assume the research above is US, as the safety standards for herbal supplements in the UK and Europe generally are far more stringent. In case you're worried about it, though, just swallow your capsule (and the ones I have are like horse pills!) with a massive gulp of water and you'll be fine.
I'd be very cautious about generalising US research out to UK products, as our's are manufactured under far stricter standards and of course, this is only going to become more the case as the new EEC directives are enforced.
