I was first told that it was GAD that I had, then by the obscessive worrying, the dr. was saying maybe it was OCPD. So ofcourse now I was like totally confused and it just seemed like he was looking for a disorder. Like a guessing game. It kind of pissed me off to be honest, although I have attributes of being critical, and detailed oriented, it seems like that has been one of my traits all of my life. And on top of that, when I read up on characteristics of Virgo's all of those OCPD traits are common with Virgo traits. So now, it just seems like he was happy that we kind of "unlocked" a secret door or something. What I can say is that, I do worry about things and ruminate on them, however, how it seems like he is missing the big picture. Yeah I am a very detailed, but it just seems like my real issue is being overlooked. I just don't have the feeling of "hitting the nail on the head with this one". The characteristics of GAD is what seems to make me miss out on enjoying life, not being a detailed or critical person. If I showed him the characteristics of Virgos he would see that part of me was earned honestly. Is he missing the real issue? Or is it just me?
Your input is needed....

Hello. . .I'm a virgo too (8/28/81), and I've got a mild form of OCD, along with depression and social anxiety, so basically I've got a whole hodgepodge. But I totally see what you're saying, about the general anxiety being the main thing that's affecting your life, and your traits of being critical and perfectionistic (which many people, virgos and non-virgos alike, share) being just that, traits. For me, I see it as a continuum: there are people who are so obsessive and rigid that it controls their life, and there are others who, while slightly compulsive, are generally happy. So I guess the bottom line is, what is affecting your life, and by how much. Also, if you feel uncomfortable with this doctor for any reason, by all means feel free to switch doctors. Because I personally (as well as many others) feel that one of the most important things for successful management of depression, anxiety, OCD, PCOS, etc., is having a doctor who understands and respects you. Hang in there, and good luck!
I'm a Virgo too, and although my obsessive traits may well be due to a disorder (I have an autistic disorder called Asperger's syndrome), I do think doctors should be careful when making a psychiatric diagnosis that they are not simply lumping personality traits together to suit what they think is right. If you firmly believe your problems are due to GAD, then you should tell your doctor you respectfully disagree with him, or find a doctor who will listen if he won't.
