Default Vitamins for Hair Loss? Any success stories? I cannot handle more meds.

I will buy and try till I find something that works.

I have a bottle of Biotin, and maybe I will get some iron as well.

Any success?

I am having the same problem. I am also desperate for a solution. I don't know what other meds you are on but I am taking metformin and I don't know if it is helping yet, some ppl have said it actually made it worse I hope not. I bought some Saw Palmetto it is supposed to help your hair. I am afraid to take mine now though, cause of all the meds I am on. I will have to ask my doc next time if I can still take it. My doctor did tell me folic acid helps. You can take 8oo mgs. Thats what I took when pregnant. Its double the recommended dose. I have been using a treatment conditioner in my hair almost everyday. My hair is also very dry and the ends get all knoted. I NEVER had this problem till about 2 months ago. I was just recently diagnosed. Do you have this too?

I'm sorry about your frustration. I know how you feel, hair loss is one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with.

What dose of biotin are you on? I was taking a biotin supplement, and then realized each pill was only 300mcg's, when the recommended amount for hair loss is actually 3000 - 5000 mcg's per day. For the last 2 months, I've been using Puritan Pride's 5000mcg pills once a day. I've definitely noticed a difference in the health of my hair. It seems to be growing faster, and I'm always having to cut my nails now!

Also, I find the type of bcp I'm on makes a HUGE difference. My hair falls out in gobs with Alesse and OTC Lo. (OTO Lo also gives me cystic acne type zits on my chin). I'm currently on Marvelon which seems good, and I've been on Diane 35 in the past - my skin, hair and everything was beautiful back then. Diane 35 is one of the stronger bcp's though... and I'm not sure if you can even get it in the US.

I hope you find something that works for you!

Hi pikachu,
Why are you not trying Diane 35 again? I'm asking that because I am thinking of maybe trying Diane instead of Yasmin (I am on right now)

Hopelina - I'm actually currently doing a single pack of bcp's as part of my IUI program, which I'm starting in January. My fertility clinic recommends Marvelon for this over Diane 35. Diane 35 contains a strong antiandrogen, which is probably not good to take right before trying to conceive.

I've heard good things about Yasmin for PCOS patients though, are you not finding it works for you?

Hi all,

I found that Vitamin B complex, saw palmetto, and a combination of spearmint tea with red raspberry leaf, and evening primrose oil gels have slowed my hair loss to a degree...it may have even slowed hair growth! I noticed the diff within a month...I also use Wen haircare products...

I used to use Rogaine for 4 years, but I stopped after having major hair loss over the summer...usually when you stop using Rogaine, the hair goes too, but with this combo of natural remedies with vitamins, I am losing hair at what seems to be a normal rate...strands, not clumps!

Hope this helps...

Hi there -

Do you feel the Wen products make a difference at all?

I wash my hair every day so don't have to deal with the huge numbers of loss when I skip. (coping strategy)

Also, how much saw palmetto do you use? Are you using the extract or the berry?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just looking for other ways to slow or halt the loss.

Hi Kimm!

Ask away, that's what we are here for!

I think the Wen has reduced some of the problems that I have experienced with regular shampoos such as breakage and shedding...

I have been alternating Saw Palmetto brands since I've been introduced and currently I am using Nature's Herbs, Saw Palmetto Berries, 600 MG each...I purchased them at "The Vitamin Shoppe". I have also used GNC's brand too which was 540 mg...I'm just 'experimenting' with the brands and dosage since I didnt know which was better and I not actively TTC...

I have had some bad hair moments, but I'd say that w/o the use of Rogaine, or the natural remedy regimine, I could be doing worse...

Pikachu,
I am on my 6th pack on Yasmine and it is not working anymore. The first three months were GREAT, my shedding stopped and then on the 4th pack my shedding started to increse and now I#M back from where I started :-((
I am considering Diane...and I am scared as it seems that everything I take it's only working for me for a few months ..Flutamide worked for the first months too....
Good luck to you !! I#m sending lots of baby dust to you !!!

I don't know if it can help, but my french derm told me to take one Anacaps pill from Ducray each day, using it since 3 years now (even found the pack of 3 months in Canada it gives one month free!).. I also have 30mg of zinc per day. I use Vichy shampoo with aminexil. And to complete this cocktail, I now use androcur and diane35. And well... for hair cut, I ask a barber, she's in better possition to tell me how my hair are going since she have the habit of men alopecia (it's also only 12$can for an hair cut and no line-up!). She thinks that my hair are stronger. I stopped the minoxidil, too greasy in curly hair like mine.
About Jasmin, in France (only there that doctors took seriously my pb) they try the first time Diane 35, if it's too strong.. they give jasmin and if it's not fine again, jasminelle... think you can't find lower.

Hi rub,
Thanks for your answer! I used Anacaps for some months too (I'm from Germany, you can buy them here, too) and I also tries Anastim and Chronostim (for 6 months) and no improvement...
Maybe only on the hair structure, my hairs are strong and I find no miniaturisation..

Think anacaps is easy to find everywhere, just the price is very different. Wanted find a way to import them from Europe. I had 3 months for 26€ and in Canada, it's 3 boxes for 64$can+taxes and it's very rare, they often only have the 1month box for 32$can+taxes. Crazy how some stuff can be so expensive in North America When I saw a rebate of -15% I ran to the store and took all the boxes! LOL

In my case, my hair (the few who are still growing) are stronger and I even now have women nails! I like anacaps! I'm more masculine than feminine (you're from germany, so if i tell you that I was a regular of festivals like Wacken, Summerbreeze.. you can guess my style ), so my hair and nails were the only things who maked me feel women. I'm still losing my hair, less than before but the baby hairs still fall after 1month. Now, I cut very short my hair but I have, at least, nails to stay myself. Hoping that androcur will give result soon.

I tried also Anastim and Chronostim (klorane also had a treatment like this one) but it was'nt usefull cause also had to use the minoxidil. Now that I've a lot of complements, anacaps is easier cause it's just another pill on my morning pill box.

Hair loss seems so complicated, no one react the same way to the medecine and treatment. I'm fighting against this pb since so many years now, wonder if something will really give good and PERMANENT results. I know that I don't produce the same amount of hormone each months so it make things more complicated..

We should all born bald! It would make life more simple for men and women..

Has anyone ever heard of or tried Viviscal?

I used it before and was thinking of trying it again since I am more aware of my PCOS bodily functions...I think it may be a good product, I just didnt invest enough time into it, nor did I have my other 'weapons' to combat hair loss...

I think you can not accept wonders from viviscal, im taking it and still have a major hairloss, but i think without viviscal it would be more worse and the hair that i have (its not a lot) is growing very fast.

my mum is using at the moment called "Plantur 39" the tonic, she is very satisfied. I dont know if you can get those products there (im from switzerland) i think its a german product.
