I posted this thread on the Hair loss forum and I was told that it was best to direct my questions to the Alternative Remedies forum. Here is what I wrote there
This is my first post to my favorite forum. I have been a lurker for about a year. I love reading the posts on here, it really makes me feel accepted and its great to know that you're not alone in this crazy world . My name is Cindy and I am 21 yrs old.
My doctor put me on 1500 mg of Metformin last year and I have seen great results . I have lost 40lbs since and I'm feeling great. Sadly, one of things that i have noticed, is the hair thinning/hairloss. I am loosing a lot, a lot of hair and its very noticable. For a moment, I thought I was going bald.
I recently visited a temprorary physcian (as I just moved because I am in the process of a divorce) and the doctor suggested that the hair loss was due to stress, which could be true, but I feel that he didn't know much about PCOS, so I can't really take his word.
Anyways, I have decided to put things in my own hands. By eating Whole wheat grains, exercising, driking lots of water and taking my vitamins.
I am very confused about the vitamins part, as every person has their own personal combo that they swear by, so here is what I think I will go with for now, please let me know if this sounds crazy or off. This is the daily dosage:
Metformin --1500 mg Centrum (A to Zinc) --1 tablet Green Tea Extract-- 2 capsules Vitamin E-- 3000 I.U. B-12--6000mcg Follic Acid--1200 mcg Biotin--5 mg MSM-- I am not sure how much to take, any ideas?
I am also very careful with my hair. I don't stress it while styling (no blow drying). I wash it twice a week only and use a special comb(since i have very curly hair).
I am anemic so I am thinking to continue taking Iron Supplements 27 mg along with the centrum, is that too much Iron, the centrum contains 18 mg.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, hope to hear some encourging and welcoming words from my cysters.
I would most definitely add a B complex in the mix. Met depletes your B vitamin stores. And you'll be surprised at how much better you feel taking them aince stress depletes them as well. I take PhytoPharmica brand. My dad is a pharmacist and sent them to me... so I trust that it is a high quality brand
I'll second the B vitamin suggestion. Taking only one B vitamin throws the others out of balance. Taking a B complex gives you a good amount of all of them.

sometimes you can find viatimas for "womens' health" Again, I use PhytoPharmica... thats how I gt my B complex... and that also has a little bit of Vitex in it which we know is good for PCOS!
Vitex is good for [i]some[i] with PCOS. I know that personally it made things worse for me and that it took a long time to straighten things out after I took it.
This syndrome has so many symptoms and combinations of symptoms that we each need to do the research and even use trial and error to find what works for us as individuals. We have to rememeber to treat the person and not the syndrome.

Thank you cysters for your replies. I am going to order a super B-Complex online and also Biotin. I will take them along with everything else i listed.
Ajani: Very true what you said. I am surprised how well metformin has worked for me. I mean I still have the hairloss/acne problem, but things have improved a great deal. And I am feeling better already with the vitamins.
I think for myself personally, I like to do things naturally. And I want my body to be in a normal state, where it's not too stressed with my weight. I understand that there are some cysters who are skinny, but I think for my case, my weigh loss will improve things a great deal or at least I hope!
Thank you, anymore suggestions and ideas will be appreciated
