Vitanica PCOS Blend--Anyone use it? Hi ladies,
I'm new to this (this is my first-ever post!) so please forgive me if this has been covered.
I was just officially diagnosed with PCOS a couple weeks ago, though I've suspected it for a while. I finally went to a naturopath after 15 years of being told I just had irregular cycles and would have to stay on birth-control pills if I wanted to put an end to my 6-week periods. Of course, the BCPs made me almost suicidally depressed, so I had to couple them with Prozac, which in turn caused a host of other problems . . . I finally gave up on conventional medicine a year ago and started trying to figure things out on my own. And so my journey with natural healing began.
Anyhow, that's just a little background for you, but my real reason for posting is that I have some questions about one of the things my ND prescribed for me. First, she prescribed natural progesterone pills to be taken for the last 12 days of my cycle. Second is a product called PCOS Blend, made by Vitanica. It contains vitamin C, calcium, vitamin D2, chromium, nettles root, green tea, saw palmetto, sarsaparilla, bloodroot, and licorice.
My questions relate to the PCOS Blend. First off, have any of you ever taken it? If so, what did it do for you? I need to have another conversation with my ND, because I'm not quite sure which part of the PCOS it's supposed to address. I know saw palmetto regulates testosterone levels, and chromium and green tea help with insulin metabolism, but any ideas about the rest?
My second question is, the bottle warns against taking while pregnant. Do you think that means my husband and I should use protection while I'm on this? After my diagnosis, we decided to stop trying not to conceive. I guess we figured since my chances are diminished, we shouldn't keep waiting for the perfect time . . . sorry, I'm on a tangent. But back to the question--in my situation, should I be avoiding these herbs?
I know these are all questions for the naturopath, but they're burning in my mind right now, so I thought I'd see if anyone has any experience with the herbs I mentioned.
Thanks in advance for your responses! I'm so glad this group exists! |
