Default Vitex?

What exactly is it? I tried progesterone cream for a couple weeks and ended up woith huge ovarian cysts so I have to be careful but I'd like to try some alternative remedies. Does Vitex have estrogen like qualities? How does it work? I have some and wnat to try it but need more info!

Hi,

Vitex is adaptogenic, which means it adjusts hormones as needed, up or down.

Wow! I'm surprised the progesterone cream caused the cysts. My aunts doc used it to shrink them....In fact, that's all i've ever heard about npc. that it helps em, not makes em.

Kittycat,

I'm really surprised, too, that Vitex would cause cysts - maybe the cysts were already there?

Here's a GREAT website about ovarian cysts:
http://www.cyst101.com/

It's not specific to PCOS, but it has a lot of detail about which substances are good for cysts, which can increase cyst growth, etc. Look at the page "phytoestrogens" on the menu bar.

Good luck,
L
