Question Vitex & AF Question

Hi I have a question,
I didn't get AF for 3 months so i introduced with provera 10mg for 10days well on day 4 of that i decided to take vitex 500mg a day well AF came earlier then usual when i take provera it usually comes on day 14 but it came on day 7 after taking the last pill. anyways last sunday AF came full force ok thats fine then around wednesday she was so much more heavier bad cramps(TMI) the whole 9 yards. but i still took the vitex but then i couldn't stand the bad cramps and heavy bleeding so i stopped the vitex until AF is over is that a bad thing should i of just kept taking it? will AF be around longer i usually don't get AF heavy and long. even with being introduced. the last time it was this long is when i first started taking BCP 3 years ago( i am not on them now been off for almost a year).

Maybe the heavy bleeding could be because i haven't had AF in over 3 months? i don't know i'm worried!! Please help!!

TIA,
Melanie

Hi Melanie

I hope you are no longer so worried. Big (((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) if you are. Anyway, I'm no expert on Provera as I've never taken it but I can tell you that mixing herbs designed to help with your sex hormones along with conventional medicines designed to do the same thing is not a good idea. It's like taking twice the prescription .

So that probably explains why you had such a dramatic reaction. My advice is to read up on herbs, there are many excellent books and websites available.

Take Care and I hope you feel better soon.

Melanie,

I hope that your cramping has stopped. Your hunch that you're bleeding so much this af due to not having af in three months may be true. Sometimes you will bleed a lot if you haven't bled at all in months...just because it builds up.

As for your question about stopping Vitex during af, some cysters do this for one reason or another. I believe in European countries, or maybe its just the UK, some herbalists only recommend using Vitex pre-O. Also, some cysters stop taking it after O if they are ttc.

Definitely read up on the Vitex like Scarlet said. I've been taking it for almost six months...and I love it. My cycles are like clockwork and I O every time!

Good luck!
