Vitex-agnus castus?

Hello ladies,i am new on these boards!

I don't have PCOS,but i was searching something on google and this forum popped up and i see you have a whole 13 page discussion about Vitex so i thought i would register and ask you a question

i hope you don't mind!

Last year i m/c at 13 weeks,since then my period have been spaced out,i had u/s done to check for cysts and everything but it turned out fine and the only problem i have is high prolactin level (my levels are 550 and anything from 102-496 is normal) i don't want to take dostinex or bromocriptine because my levels are just a tad higher than usual so i thought i would try Agnus-Castus ..

This is what i bought:

Agnus Castus 20 mg of highly concentrated standardised extract of Agnus Castus-one-da-day tablets! (Vitex Agnus Castus L.)

Now i read on here that most of you are taking Vitex 800mg or more tablets per day!!! and im only taking 20mg :S is there a difference with Vitex and Agnus Castus??? please help me :S

I also started this 5 days ago (so far i have taken one tablet per day) and on the second day i started spotting,its become more and more and it's like a period now :S but not red in colour,it's darker (TMI sorry) i was on CD20 when i took my firs tablet,could agnus castus have induced my period?? I have no idea if i ovulated before CD20 or not :s my cycles are usually around 35 days!

This is long i know but im desperate,im scared this spotting/bleeding is dangerous!

The dark spoting is usually a good thing (I mean if you are taking herbs like that and not pregnant), it means your body is actively trying to get rid of old, icky, toxic blood that has been siting inside you too long. It's not a bad thing, as long as it only lasts a few days, like your period would, and as long as it doesn't happen like every 2 weeks or something.

Maybe the type you are taking is very concentrated, so the dosage is different. Does it say "extract" or anything like that on it? That would be a good indication. "Vitex-agnus castus" is the full name, we mostly call it just vitex, or chaste tree.

What brand do you take?

Sorry, I just read that you take Kira. I googled it, and yes, it says it is a very concentrated source of vitex, and it says it is equivilant to 240mg of the regular, so I'm sure it is plenty.

Honestly I'm not familiar with the brand, or it's quality, so I can't comment on that, but if it is a good quality, you are taking plenty.

Holy cow! Where are you seeing this? I don't think this is true at all. 800 mg of Vitex? Not most of us, certainly.

As for me, I take 215 Vitex extract and 25 mg vitex berries in a blend daily.

But dosages can and should vary

Thank you ladies! Your answers make me feel better

I bought agnus castus capsules 400mg,it says on the bottle that you should take 2 a day,but im just taking 1 because i just want to lower my prolactin a bit.

And yes it says EXTRACT on the box,so i guess you're right i could've continued with the tablets
