Default Vitex, Dong Quai & Provera

Hi,

I'm on CD 52 of my cycle (my cycles are normally between 40-45 days). I started vitex on April 10th and had a period on April 20th but haven't had one since. I also just added dong quai yesterday. My question is - can I take the provera while staying on the vitex and dong quai or do I have to discontinue the herbs while on the Provera? From everything I've read the herbs can take up to 3-6 months to start working and for you to see a change so I don't really want to stop and mess up whatever little regulating (if any) they have done - but at the same time I'm eager to end this long cycle. Any advice you guys may have will be SO much apprectiated!

You can take them together, they shouldn't interact. Don't know if you NEED to take them together, though. Before you give up on the herbs, try taking a LOT of dong quai for 3 or 4 days. I had gone about 6 months without getting my period, and someone reminded me of this, and it worked. Also, the PMS symtoms were not bad (especially considering it had been 6 months). I took 12 capsules per day (520 mg of Dong Quai per capsule). I got my period after 4 days. It usually only takes 3 days, but I'm guessing it took longer because I only took about 6 on the third day.

Another suggestion: take the dong quai only for the first half of your cycle, then the vitex for the second half (from ovulation on). Dong quai helps balance hormones, but vitex is specifically helpful with increasing progesterone.

Thank you soooooooo much DollFinn511!!! I'm not sure when I ovulate - or even if I do, but I would guess since my cycles are so long and sporadic that they are probably anovulary (spelling?) but I will double/triple up on the dosage of my dong quai as you suggested. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
