Default Vitex not good for all cysters?

I always thought that Vitex (Chaste Tree Berry) was good for all women with PCOS. Then my herbalist gave me some papers on the specific herbs that I had asked her about and this is what it says about vitex: "Chaste Tree berries help restore a normal estrogen/progesterone balance by increasing luteinizing hormone production and inhibiting the release of follicle stimulating hormone"

So I guess it would not be good for me since I have "normal" FSH/LH levels...thus any cysters with all ready high LH or low FSH should not be taking this herb.

Am I reading into this correctly?

Actually you've stumbled upon the neverending Vitex debate.

Alot of the research concerning this herb will tell you that it elevates LH.....on the flip side, alot of the research will tell you that it normalizes hormones. I.E...if you need more progesterone, less estrogen, it balances. If you need less LH, more FSH it balances. Unfortunately, there has yet to be a definitive study on LH levels after long term Vitex use.

I myself have been taking it since September of '03...I haven't had new bloodwork done since I passed the 6 month mark (which is generally how long research advises you to wait before expecting results with Vitex). I'm going in in August for bloodwork, so if my LH is through the roof, I'll know that maybe Vitex isn't for me.

I've been using Soy Isolate powder to promote FSH, so hopefully my ratio stays where it should be.

I know this probably doesn't help. Just wanted you to know that there really doesn't seem to be an answer to your question (yet).
