I saw my doctor (NHS) at the end of January. He agreed my symptoms indicate PCOS and said he would refer me for blood tests and a U/S scan to confirm. I had my bloods done the following week, but am still waiting an appointment for my scan.
I just wondered if anyone, particularly in the W.Yorks area, had an idea how long the wait generally is. I live in Wakefield and would probably be going to either Pinderfields or Clayton hospital.
Well, i had my bloods done June 2003, scan in October 2003 then they lost my results for a month, finaly had my 1st appointment with gyny in March 2004. I now have regular 3 monthly meetings with him at Sandwell Hospital. My Doctors are abit on the slow side but the gyny is spot on. Hope yours goes abit quicker!!!

Hi, this is my first post on here - I've only recently been diagnosed with pcos. I'm also under Sandwell hospital & I was told that the waiting list there for a scan was 5 months! I had my scan done privately on Tuesday and it confirmed that it was pcos. I've now got to go for a x-ray tomorrow & I'm dreading it (never had to go through anything like this before). From what I gather on this site and other sites I've visited, waiting lists tend to be the biggest bug-bare, especially when you can't do anything apart from wait! It's so frustrating. I think you just have to keep on at them and explain how anxious all of this makes you feel, not to mention the symptoms you are having to put up with for longer. Hope this helps.

Well, I called my doctors today to enquire how long, and got told the waiting list for non-urgent scans is approx 9 weeks, so I've probably still got another couple of months to wait. It seems better than I expected, though.
He also decided to tell me I'm bordeline underactive thyroid - just "while you're on the phone" kind of thing - so I've to start taking 100 micrgram thyroxine daily.
Yeah i had my scan when i was 16 1/2 for this and it takes about 20mins or so, because they look at each ovary, it feels really funny when they put the gel over your belly- really cold , but honestly its fine
Well, had my scan done on Tuesday - nothing to worry about, it felt ok. Confirmed that my ovaries are polycystic.
I had my HSG ex-ray done yesterday - that was a bit more painful, but it showed that my tubes are clear, so I can start on the clomid the consultant was planning to prescribe (not sure yet when I've got to go again yet).
I'm starting the met on Monday (just so that I can have the weekend eating & drinking more or less what I want!)
And....this is the best bit, we're having a new bed delivered tomorrow, so of course it's going to need to be christened :o (!)
I went to my Dr's October last year and told him my symptoms (putting on weight, acne, heavy painful periods, etc...) He referred me to the consultant at the hospital who I saw 2 weeks ago (all of this has happened since then).
When I saw the consultant, he said that I'm prob not ovulating and providing that my tubes are not blocked, he would prescribe me clomid to help with the ovulation.
My hubby and I have been trying for a baby for years with no success, and I'm 34 soon (my hubby will be 46 this year) - so maybe that's why they're moving a bit quicker, or maybe I'm one of the lucky ones!

Just keep trying - explain over & over again if you have to just how much suffering you are going through. If that doesn't work, I would seriously consider changing dr's/gyno's. Hope you get sorted out soon, the waiting can seem endless when you're suffering.

Hi everyone, just wanted to pop in and hopefully reassure those of you newly diagnosed. I was diagnosed (finally) in June 2004 after I went and told them what it was! My sister had been diagnosed and I recognised all the signs and symtoms that I had had over the 25yrs or so and it was confirmed. As well as pcos I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic.
I had never ovulated either and went onto metformin straight away..the first few weeks on met wasnt too bad for me, my dr upped the dose on a fortnightly basis which made it easier for me but after about 3 months on met it was like my ovaries woke up and I could feel things happening at last! The good news is I conceived in Nov 04 on just met alone but sadly m/c'd in December, but managed to fall again late January early feb again on just met alone and so far so good
I know from talking to others with pcos it can seem so daunting and emotional but being diagnosed is such a positive thing because you know what you are fighting against, have lots of info and advice to get you through and of course it means that things can happen
I hope this has helped some, remember keep positive! Shout if you you have any questions or want to ask me more, I am more than happy to talk about any of it
hugs and GL to all xx
