Default Waking up anxious

Hello:

I'm new to Cysters, so please forgive if this is a topic already covered in the past.

I often wake up tense, anxious and teary, extremely uninterested in facing the day. Often my stomach hurts. As I go through my waking up routine, this eventually starts to diminish. Also, although I know that I should eat something, I often put it off for about an hour, because I do not feel hungry. However, as the day progresses, I generally begin to feel better and better, and by the evening the teeth-gritting anxiety of the morning seems like a distant memory.

I take Lexapro 20 mg and Levothyroxine 20 mcg daily. I have Xanax available for full-fledged panic attacks, but only use it when I am very, very uncomfortable, as it makes me sleepy.

Oh, yes, and to those in another thread who wrote about being tired all the time ... I have the same experience.

Can any recommend a way to wake up happier?

Thank you.

I'm sorry that you are feeling this way. I only feel like this once in a great while. I can usually pinpoint some kind of stress causing it.

Are you getting enough sleep? Is there something in particular on your mind that is causing you anxiety? How are you waking up? On your own? Alarm?

I would try different things...from listening to music when I wake up (set your alarm to radio) or writing myself positive notes on the nightstand or bathroom mirror. If nothing seems to work, I would ask the doctor. That is no way to start each day. Feel better. Hugs.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? He or she might consider prescribing a low dose of Ativan or Klonopin nightly. Otherwise, I don't know. Exercising in the morning might make you feel better faster, but that's always hard to do when you're unhappy.

Oh, one other idea is progesterone cream. Progesterone is supposed to be calming.

I hope you find something to help soon!

i had this problem once before.. i was really stressed i had my final exams coming up.. i used to get up in the morning.. feeling really depressed and teary.. i used to cry in the morning usually everyday.. but then as the day went by i would feel much much better..
so this is only stress related as far as i can tell.. when i was done with the exams i was normal again..
so there is probably something on ur mind.. something ur worried about.. maybe talking to someone or sharing may make u feel much better.. it always helps me..
nowdays ever since i found i have pcos i have the same anxious feeling in the morning.. if i get woken up by something i can never go back to sleep.. but its not soo bad.. i have my breakfast and start feeling better..
so its a good idea to eat.. dont stay hungry.. it will only make u feel worse..
i hope u feel better soon!!

It sounds like you may be depressed. I know you are taking an anti-depressant; but I remember feeling this way when I had major depression. I would wake up shaking and fearful; I also had stomachaches. In the evening I usually felt better, too. Anyway, it definitely sounds depression/anxiety related. Tell your doctor, he may need to adjust your meds or prescribe something else. Take care!
