Default Wal-Mart's $4 prescriptions

My parents have no insurance and my dad takes Toprol 150 mg twice a day. I read online that Wal-Mart includes the generic version of Toprol (metoprolol) at 25, 50 and 100 mg doses for the $4 price. My dad got his prescriptions filled a few weeks ago before he went out of town and they charged over 200 dollars for three months of his Toprol.

I know my state participates, and that he should have gotten the discount. Does anyone know anything about how the program works and how to get the cheaper prescriptions?

Thanks!

Maybe his doctor needs to rewrite the prescription for him to take 3 50mg pills twice a day in order for it to qualify. I have gotten my met and my high blood pressure medication for the $4 price. It would appear to me that since his dosage is not offered in the discounted generic, he's not getting it for the discounted price.

Hi Sally,

I think hanshab is right. I just filled my Metformin ER 500mg prescription at Sam's Club and because my Dr. wrote my RX up as 500mg 2x day, then 3, then 4x a day, I ended up getting a quantity of 90 so I'm assuming it's $4/60 pills being I was charged $6/90. I didn't have to fill out any paper work or anything to get this price. There's always the possibility that Met is just this cheap, I'm not sure? I am not complaining about the price though since I have no RX coverage So, I think you could probably call the pharmacy and ask them how exactly it works and then request the Dr. to change the prescription. I wish your Dad Good luck! Take care

This link goes to walmart's phamacy page:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=5431

This link goes to the $4 prescription offer:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=546834

The $4 is for a 30 day supply, since your father recevied a 90 day supply, that could be why it cost so much. I also read that you have to go into the store to pick up your prescription, if he did mail order that could be another reason why it cost more than $4.

Good Luck,
Lana
