Talking want to go on metaformin

I was just doing some research on spironolactone, which I am taking. I do not like the fact that it has been known to cause tumors in lab rats. I am taking it because i have abnormal hair growth on my chin. and also to bring down my testosterone. i was also taking bcps for that but i do not like being on them. i am currently single and not having sex and i know i am suposed to use them to help ovulate, but i am giving it a trial break.
I am cuious as to what met can do for me. i suspect i am insulin resistant but is it possible to go on it if i find out i am not? also, what exactly is met suposed to do for women with PCOS? please, no technical terms or links. i need things broken down for me.
thanks !!!!

Smile reply about metformin

Hi, I have been on Metformin for like half a year now. Did they say they were going to prescribe it for you? Well if you are insulin resistant here is how it works, from what I understand. If you are insulin resistant your cells are not using insulin properly to break down and use sugar/energy from your food, so since it's not getting used it gets stored as fat. Metformin helps the insulin resistant cells use the energy like thay are supposed to. After they put me on Metformin I was not as hungry as before, I mean it wasn't a complete suppressant but the hungry feelings felt different, not so overwhelming... and my energy level slightly felt higher, AND I lost 20 pounds so far. I don't know how it relates to ovulating, though. So, I have had a good experience with Metformin (not everyone does), let me know if this bit of info helps.

thanks for your reply. you see, i am a thin cyster and i don't want to lose weight. spiro does that also, which is another reason i don't like it. i am hungry all the time and get aggitated if i don't eat. but where is all this food that i eat going to? i swear, i just don't feel doctors do anything. they just want you to sit in their office for a few minutes and get paid hundres of dollars for that. they don't listen and don't keep on top of things. just so FRUSTRATED!!!
